2023 Foundation Students

It has been great to have our 2023 Foundation students joining us on Friday mornings. They have really started to settle into our school environment.

Last Friday, they joined the F/1 class for Walker Learning and the Responsible Pet Ownership session. The students have started to form some lovely friendships and enjoyed playing together.

The F/1 students have been showing great learning over the past two weeks. They have been working hard on showing their knowledge of measurement, addition and subtraction in Maths. We are currently working on developing our mental maths for simple addition sums.

In writing we have been learning about giving clues and “What am I?” riddles. The students' riddles are currently on display in our windows.

The students were very excited and happily joined in with the Responsible Pet Ownership session. They learnt how to be safe around familiar and unfamiliar dogs, as well as what to do if a dog is angry and going to attack.

In Walker Learning, the students have access to a wide range of craft materials to make sculptures and images out of. This helps the students develop their creative thinking skills, as well as work towards the visual arts curriculum.

Last week, Brylee created a picture in this space. She used tape, paper, scissors and paper to create her design.

Brylee taped her pieces of paper together and connected them with a sun. She used the materials that she had to make a day and night side.

Brylee was able to discuss the features of her picture with her peers and demonstrated knowledge of day and night patterns and components, which links in with the F-2 Science Curriculum.

We have been working hard on our SMART Spelling this week. Our spelling pattern was ‘x’ as in city. In Maths, we have been learning about clockwise and anticlockwise, and quarter and half turns. We learnt a clever trick to remember left and right! As part of our topic about Australia’s neighbours we learned about East Timor. We remembered all those who have died in battle to mark Remembrance Day.
