Junior School

Years 7 to 9

Year 7 Hello and welcome back to Term 3!

After a very successful end to Semester 1 we are looking forward to seeing what our Year 7 Cohort can accomplish in Semester 2. All students have now had a chance to view their Semester 1 report and discuss these with their parents/carers and now is the time to take action and make any changes necessary if there were areas on the reports where improvements could be made. As we are now into Semester 2 and the Year 7s have a full semester of secondary schooling under their belt, we expect that they are demonstrating the expected behaviours and attitudes in class. That is, arriving to class on time with all required learning materials, fully participating and engaging in each lesson of the day, completing any assigned homework or assessment tasks to an acceptable standard by their due date and working well with their peers in class.

We are also really excited for the fortnightly challenges which will take place across Semester 2 as well. At the end of Term 2 we had a kindness challenge where we were able to learn about all of the ways students in Year 7 were being kind to each other. We have kicked off this term with an Achievement Challenge. This provides students an opportunity to let us know about the achievements occurring outside of school and gives us a chance to get to know our Year 7 Cohort more holistically as individuals outside of school and as well.

We are looking forward to watching our Year 7 Cohort continue to grow and develop and can’t wait to see what they’re all capable of!

Year 8 Welcome to Semester 2 of the 2023 School Year.

Students will start some new subjects this term which is generally exciting. As students have recently received a report for Semester 1, it is a very good time to be setting goals for learning in the attempt of growth in the areas that most need improvement. It is important for Year 8 students to have necessary equipment for classes, some students seemed to be lacking pens and exercise books by the end of Term 2, so it is an important time to ensure all of these things are replenished.

Year 8’s are looking at their interests at the moment in Connect with the idea of their subject selection being in the next few weeks. Course handbooks are on the school website for any families interested in looking now. Each family will be sent a log-in in advance to the subject selections opening online.

Year 9 Welcome back to Term 3!

The year 9’s have made a great start to the term. They have all started their new electives and settled in well. During our RAID session last week students filled in their Career and Education Action Plan in preparation for the upcoming course advising sessions. Students looked through their Semester 1 reports and Morrisby profiles and created learning goals for Semester 2. I encourage students to continue these conversations about their progress and future goals at home.

At Year 9, it is also important that students are punctual to class and prepared with the appropriate equipment to maximise their learning. Students should also avoid loitering at the locker bays in between periods. They should also be in complete uniform, if they are unable to do so a uniform pass needs to be collected from the Junior school office in the morning with a parent note.

I am looking forward to the semester ahead which includes assisting students with their upcoming course selection for Year 10, attending the overnight RAID camp in a few weeks time and watching the Year 9’s transition into Senior School.

Junior School Events

Yr 7 – Digital Thumbprint

Yr 7 students attended a one-hour Optus Digital Thumbprint workshop this week to learn how to be safe, responsible and positive online.  Workshop facilitator, Victoria Healy, used real life examples to illustrate what challenges young people face online and how they could be avoided and resolved.  Students continued discussing and exploring what they learnt in their Connect class today.

Yr 8 - Subject Selections for 2024

Yr 8 families will be emailed their log-in details for online 2024 subject selections next Thursday, 27th July.  We remind families that the Junior School Handbook 2024  is now available on the College’s website to support students to complete their subject preferences.   Yr 8 students will also be given an opportunity to hear more about each subject from our Curriculum Area Leaders and ask questions about the different subjects and the subject selection process in next week’s Connect lesson.

Yr 9 - Course Advising Day & RAID camp

A reminder that our next RAID day, Wednesday 26th July, has been set aside for Course Advising. Year 9 students are not expected to be at school, but families can make an appointment with a course advisor between 11am-6pm.  For further details, please contact Senior School.

We anticipate a great RAID camp for Yr 9 students in Week 5.  Permission & payments have now closed for this event.  For more information regarding arrangements, please contact the Yr 9 RAID Coordinator, Daniel Ralston.
