How can you help your child regulate their nervous system and offer support? 

 

Are they in their Upstairs (Thinking) brain or in their Downstairs (reactive) brain? 

Meet them where they are.

Next time there is challenge in your home try these things:

  1. Get down on their level
  2. Show empathy on your face.
  3. Keep your voice calm and loving.

By engaging in these simple steps, we can help our children and lend them our nervous systems to co-regulate.  Having the opportunities to practice the skill of calming down, repeatedly, with a patient caregiver teaches vital self-regulation skills. Make it a part of your home.
