Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.

Colossians 3:23

It’s been a big couple of weeks for the creative arts in Warrnambool. It’s been wonderful to see King’s College Junior School students and the school community engaged in the Creative Arts using and honing their God given talents and interests to bring colour and joy.

Sebastian, Henry, Eliza, Grace and Lylah had the wonderful opportunity to perform in the musical Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the Lighthouse Theatre with the Primary Performers.

Ollie, Tyler and Max were part of the whole school assembly band last Friday, contributing to an exciting and wonderful time of worship. It was wonderful to also have Sienna, Amelie, Sam and Ollie on a panel sharing about their faith.

Max’s dad, Richard Pritchard launched the second Wylah book, Custodians: Wylah the Koorie Warrior 2. Lots of children (and adults like me) have been looking forward to this second instalment.

The Duffy and Ezzy families have also been involved in the musical, The Wizard of Oz, put on by The Warrnambool Theatre Company and Holiday Actors, showing at the Lighthouse Theatre. Well done to all those involved!

Year 1

It has been an exciting start to the new term with two new friends joining our Year 1 class. We warmly welcome Vincent and Reuben, along with their families to King’s. The children are eager for the many exciting adventures planned for the term, including preparations for Grandparents/Special Friends Day next Friday.

Year 2

It has been a great start to Term 3! The Year 2's are all very excited for the second half of the year and all of the fun things that are ahead. Since returning to school, the Year 2's have begun learning multiplication. We have been playing lots of games and completing lots of great hands-on tasks to apply our multiplication knowledge.

Our Year 2's are now also beginning their new Humanities topic; The Importance of the Past. So far, students have brainstormed what this topic might involve, researched some important people from the past and discussed different things that they would like to investigate throughout the term such as 'what it was like when Dinosaurs were alive'.

We're very much looking forward to the fun that we're going to have throughout the term and the remainder of the year!

Year 3

During Christian Studies this week, Year 3 students happily worked in table pairs to illustrate the wisdom of building a house on firm foundations (Matthew 7:24-27).

Year 5

Year 5 have started the term in spectacular fashion with lots of getting to know the new teacher and reconnecting with friends since the holidays. We have been doing some great work in Maths, learning about chance and probability. In English, we have begun our poetry unit and the students have learnt to write Haiku poems as well as coming up with some beautiful free-verse poems of their own.

Our novel study this term is Blueback by Tim Winton and there has also been much excitement about our Science topic of light. We had a wonderful science session on Wednesday when we had the privilege of going into the Senior science lab and using the light boxes to conduct experiments about shadows. I have been so impressed with the students' willingness to give everything their best effort in class and how well they respect each other. Things are shaping up for a wonderful Term in Year 5.

Year 6

Last week, Year 6 went on camp to Phillip Island. Here are their favourite things about the trip:

Clip and Climb was probably my favourite thing on camp. I liked to just let go of the wall and just repel down then just climb up again. My favourite wall was the one that was actually like a rock wall. It had ledges and overhangs. It was challenging and I succeeded.

Lincoln B

My favourite activity was the Penguin Parade. We saw the little Penguins walk up onto the beach and then into their burrows. We also saw some of them up close as we walked back to the bus.

Hamish A

My favourite part about camp was the giant swing. The giant swing is a big rope that pulls you up in a harness and then drops you and swings you around. It was so fun but also scary.

Lottie W

My favourite thing about camp was the giant swing. It was so fast and fun! I got to go first which was very nerve wracking. When you got pulled up, there was an amazing view of the beach.

Tilly V

One of my favourite things I did at Phillip Island was the giant swing. We went so high and did some cool tricks. I can't wait for next year's camp.

Lil J

My favourite thing about camp was the Penguin Parade. At sunset little Penguins came out to shore and waited for their mates to come.

Zainab R

My favourite thing was the giant swing. When I say giant, I mean giant, it went 15 metres high! When you weren’t swinging you were pulled up by your classmates to the very top. Then when you were in the swing and got to the top you had a beautiful view. Then we pulled a rope and it released you and you started swinging.

Tommie M

My favourite thing about camp was the giant swing. I was SO nervous when I pulled the rope to let myself fall. The drop was really scary but when I was actually swinging it was awesome. I loved it.

Lily B

My favourite thing at camp was surfing. I caught a few good waves, but I wasn't that great at it. It was really fun, and actually not that cold.

Breanna A

My favourite thing on camp was the food served to us. We got to choose what we had for breakfast. For dinner on the first night, we had Chicken Schnitzels with Chips and Veggies, second night we had Lasagna.

Phillip S

So we got on the bus and we were so loud. It was fun. I had Lincoln, Michael, me,  Pippy, Ryan and Charlle in my cabin. We went to Clip and Climb. It was so fun. They said we were up to midnight. It was sooooooooooo fun. When we surfed I got 2 waves. Whenever I got a chance I also went to play basketball.

Eli M

My favourite part of camp was the peddle racers. The reason is that 5 others and I were playing this game where 4 people would be cops, making people pay taxes to get across the border (a line) and, if you got across without paying the tax, they chased you. Me and Max didn’t pay our tax and we were chased.

Micah D

My favourite thing on camp was surfing. I caught a few waves and got dunked a couple of times. The surf was excellent and the rocks were pretty far away.

Heidi P

We walked through the doors of the Phillip Island Clip ‘n’ Climb and had a safety briefing.  After the talk, the instructor told us to get the harnesses on. I went through the safety gate of the Clip ‘n’ Climb and started to climb. I hooked myself up to the first rock climbing wall I saw and started to climb. I got to the top and let go of the wall and slowly descended to the ground.

Levi W

When we got to the penguin reserve, it was really busy but somehow it was easy to get in. The walk to the lookout point took a while so it was a bit boring. At the lookout we saw some Penguins but they were a bit too far away, but on the way back we saw almost all the Penguins.

Michael D

My favourite thing on camp was the giant swing. First, everyone pulled a rope that made me go up higher as I went up I could feel the wind passing by me. As I got to the top I could see everything then I dropped it was really scary but then it was all smooth and calm.

Max P

My favourite thing on camp was the giant swing. It was huge. First, you get pulled up to the top with a rope that your friends pulled, then you pulled a string to release a hook, and then you fly in the air.

Will F

My favorite thing was Surfing. It was really fun I was catching party waves with Lottie and Tilly and doing canons on my surfboard. The people there were really nice and welcoming.

Grace W

I stepped in front of the high treacherous ladder. Some of the steps were creaking in the harsh winds. I climbed the ladder, my body shaking more and more as I got higher. Then I reached the top and I stepped up to get harnessed to the flying fox. After I got harnessed in, my foot slipped and I was freefalling for a few milliseconds. Then the rope caught me. I started gliding down, wind rushing through my face then bam, I hit the tire. I started to slide back, then I hit the ladder and was released from my harness. I stepped down from the ladder excited.

Kerby H

This year we went to Phillip Island for school camp and my favourite thing that I did was the giant swing. In my opinion it was really fun and scary at the same time. You go up 15 metres and you pull a rope to release it and then you swing down.
