A BUSY TIME DOES NOT HAVE TO BE A STRESSFUL TIME

A brief yet timely reminder

As we move through the term and edge closer to the end of Semester 3, our students are experiencing a busy time.  As is expected, some take it more in their stride than others.

A few quick tips are provided below to help students avoid any unnecessary angst or stress. Some suggestions of how we can support our young people to take care of themselves:

  1. Encourage them to be healthy; apart from healthy meals perhaps aim to have healthy snacks available. Some suggestions are hummus and celery and carrot sticks, nuts and dried fruit and fresh fruit.
  2. Encourage and support them to get plenty of sleep. Research suggests teenagers require nine to ten hours of sleep every night.
  3. Encourage them to talk to others. This may include you, their teachers and/or staff. The aim is to reassure them that they are experiencing similar emotions to those around them. It may also be to clarify a task or question.
  4. Take regular breaks… Some examples of what can be done in these breaks is:  read a book, mindful meditation, or just take time out to listen to music.
  5. Build in Regular Exercise… such as Yoga, walking (including walking the dog) or the normal sport and training that occurs with it.
