ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS' REPORT

DISCUSSING LEARNING WITH YOUR CHILD

When discussing with your child their academic achievement at school and the feedback provided on Learning Tasks (as well as Progress Reports and Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences), it is critical that parents and students look beyond grades and scores.

We encourage all students and their parents to instead reflect on each child’s academic progress and growth; a student’s intelligence is changeable, and focusing on growth has a very positive impact on student learning. Hard work and a willingness to persist when facing academic challenges are the keys to success for all students, and emphasising learning progress rather than grades/scores is a simple - but powerful - way to support student learning.

PARENT-TEACHER-STUDENT CONFERENCES

Term 3 Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences are taking place on Tuesday 5 and Thursday 7 September.

The booking system will close on Friday 1 September at 5pm. These interviews will be done remotely using Google Meet and teachers will be available for 5-minute conversations. Normal classes will not run on these two days; teachers, however, will be leaving lesson plans on Compass. This ensures students have work to go on with at home when they are not attending their online interviews.

For families who have booked interviews, your child will receive an invite via their school email a few minutes before the scheduled appointment. More information about the interview process is available on the Compass Newsfeed.

Please ensure that you access Learning Tasks and Progress Reports on Compass prior to the interviews. This feedback will help guide these conversations and ensure students reflect on their performance in Semester 2 thus far and set effective goals and plans for the remainder of the academic year.
