KINGSTON ATHLETICS
On Thursday 24 August 152 McKinnon students descended upon Duncan Mackinnon Reserve to compete at the Kingston Division Athletics Championships.
The sun was shining as were our athletes on the track and field, with our students standing at the top of the dais receiving 1st place ribbons 48 times!
This has culminated in 47 athletes qualifying for the SMR Championships in 41 individual events and 6 relay teams. This phenomenal success also resulted in McKinnon winning the overall points aggregates for the Junior Girls & Boys, Intermediate Girls & Boys and the Senior Girls. The team was also awarded the overall team aggregate pennant.
A sensational effort from all members of the team.
In addition to this I am pleased to announce that some of our students also won age group champion trophies.
These students were:
12-13 Girls: Jasmine Chilco-Burns Year 7
14 Girls: Rosie O’Brien Year 9
15 Girls: Christina Tan Year 10
16 Boys: Finn Sharp Year 10
18-20 Boys: Kevin Zhou Year 12
We wish our SMR Athletics Squad all the best for the next round of competition at Ballam Park on Thursday 5 October.

INTERMEDIATE GIRLS SOCCER SMR
On Friday 4 August the Intermediate Girls Soccer team set off to Kingston Heath Soccer Complex, where they were to compete for the Southern Metropolitan region. Our first game was against Minaret C Springvale, we fought hard until the end to secure a 2-0 win.
Our next game was against Mac.Robertson Girls, we knew this game would be tough however we persevered and ended up drawing 1-1. Our final game was against Hampton Park Secondary College. We knew that we had to win and even then it would come down to a goal difference for us to make the finals. We tried our best and pushed through until the final whistle, ending with a final score of 1-1.
Unfortunately, this means we didn’t make the Finals, but all the girls fought hard and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

YEAR 8 GIRLS SOCCER SMR FINALS
The Year 8 Girls Soccer team travelled to Kingston Heath on Wednesday 16 August to compete in the SMR Finals.
The team was motivated after the bus journey to give it their all. The team defeated Sirius High School by a score of 7-1. They were eager for the day's next game against Cheltenham High School. They won by a score of 2-1. The third game of the day was against Cranbourne East, which they won 5-1.
Our squad advanced to the Finals against Frankston, which we won again by a score of 2-0. In each game, the girls gave it their all. It was an incredible experience to play against some of the greatest, and all students should be proud of it. Come on State Finals!

YEAR 8 GIRLS BADMINTON
On Thursday 17 August, the McKinnon Year 8 Girls Badminton competed in the Southern Metro Regional Finals.
The first team the girls competed against were Kambrya. It was a huge challenge to play against them. Sadly, we didn't win a game.
Playing against Port Melbourne in our second match was a lot easier and we won all games. This was a huge mood saviour that kept the girl’s energy up and we recovered from our first match.
Doveton was the last team we competed against in Pool B. Again, we won easily 6-0. It was a big effort trying not to make mistakes and a huge effort of working together in the doubles. Every rally and score mattered even though it was only one point.
We ended up finishing 2nd in the pool and unfortunately did not advance to the finals. Thank you to all the teams for their sportsmanship and shaking hands at the end of the game. We are aiming at the State Championships next year!!
Thank you to Mrs Hooper for organizing such an amazing event for us.

YEAR 7 SOCCER SMR FINAL
On Tuesday 2 August the Year 7 Girls Soccer team participated in the SMR Final.
Our first game was against Minaret C where we dominated the play with a score of 4-0. We were eager to play the second game against Mentone Girls SC coming off with another win, 3-0.
Our final game in Pool B was against Officer and the girls dominated again with a score of 8-0. Our team went straight through to the Finals playing against Dromana. The nerves were kicking in, but the girls knew what they had to do and McKinnon SC played exceptionally well to win the Final 6-1.
Our chant was unmatchable, our passes were accurate, and our team showed courage. Being the first team at the venue to one of the last leaving we all had smiles on our faces and our singing voices were ready for the bus ride back to school as we celebrated our victorious win.

YEAR 7 GIRLS & BOYS BADMINTON
On Wednesday 16 August the Year 7 Girls and Boys Badminton teams as Kingston Champions went to Springers Leisure to compete in the Southern Metro Regional Championship.
Unfortunately, the boys found the competition very tough and didn't make it out of their pool.
However, the girls were undefeated in the Pool rounds. They beat Keysborough SC 4-2, Cheltenham SC 5-1 & Cranbourne SC 5-1 and progressed to play Kambry in the SMR final. The rallies were long and exhilarating and we fought hard but unfortunately felt the pressure and lost the final.
We were presented with the red SMR Runners Up pennant. Even though we lost, the experience was really fun for all of us. It was a fantastic outcome for all our hard work and training and we're very proud of our achievements.
