BIG SCIENCE COMPETITION
In May this year, more than 70 McKinnon Secondary students from Years 7 to 10 participated in the Big Science Competition. This is a national competition that tests students on their science knowledge, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Seven of these students obtained high distinction results, which places them in the top five percent of students who participated across Australia. These students are as follows:
Year 8: Clementine Hull, Kevin Liu, Hamish Marsden, Eli Poon, Harish Salwathura and Alexandru Virbanescu
Year 10: Fonjer Zhang
Congratulations to all these students and to everyone who participated in the Big Science Competition.
THE AUSTRALIAN SCIENCE OLYMPIADS
Earlier in Term 3, several students in Years 9 and 11 participated in the Junior Science, Physics, Biology and Chemistry Olympiad exams. The Australian Science Olympiads are a national enrichment program for secondary science students. The exams are highly challenging and allow students to extend themselves in their chosen fields of science.
Congratulations to Anh Quan Do and Si Qi Mao of Year 9, both of whom received High Distinction awards for the Junior Science Olympiad. This is an outstanding achievement.
Well done to all students involved for choosing to enhance their learning in science. We look forward to receiving the Biology, Chemistry and Physics Olympiad results later this year.
