Academic Awards

Congratulations to our boarders who received Academic Excellence Awards at this week’s assembly. For a student to obtain a 4.25 GPA, is a testament to their hard work and dedication to schooling. This was a very fitting and proud moment for the following students: Hugo Heweston, Robert Pezzelato, Zai Laifoo, Max Masterman, Patrick Arnold, Jamie Kennan, Charlie Lawrence, Gus Rolfe, Reeve Kleinschmidt and Edward Nancarrow.

As a boarding community, we look forward to acknowledging and congratulating those students who will receive an academic effort and application award on Sunday night at our Boarders' Mass. This will be based on the Semester 1 report cards for effort and application.

Returning to Boarding from Weekends/Holidays

As our boarders enjoy the free weekend that coincides with the Cairns Show holiday, I wish to reinforce that all students must return to boarding on all free and exeat weekends by 8pm on Sunday or the designated night that has been set. Students wishing to return on Monday morning, are required to contact their respective Head of Residence well in advance.

All other weekends coincide with Sunday Mass or a Liturgy, and therefore all boarders are to be back in residence by 6pm. Sunday Night Chapel is the cornerstone of welcoming the beginning of a new week. I ask that families don't make plans for Sunday nights when Chapel is on. Should your son or daughter be unable to return on time their Head of Residence is to be contacted well in advance to make other arrangements.

Boarders of the Week Recipients

Congratulations to our Boarders of the Week for the start of Term 3. It is great to see our boarders settling in and setting such a positive tone for the term ahead. Well done to the following students:

  • Juniors – Aroha Parkinson and Ethan Stoddart
  • Seniors – Jess Rye and Waterman Noipo

Sickness in Boarding

With any community living, the likelihood of becoming unwell when living in group settings remains a possibility, with flu prevalent at present. We ask families when returning from weekends, to monitor boarders' health, and if unwell not return them to residences until they are symptom-free. This will ensure staff and students remain healthy.

Thursday Afternoon Activities

Term 3 activities on Thursday afternoons will commence next week, with all students from Years 7-10 participating in various activities during the Term. Boarders rotate through these different activities and the diverse range of experiences that are on offer is commendable. The activities include:

  • Badminton
  • Basketball
  • Futsal
  • Circuit fitness training
  • Cooking
  • Touch rugby
  • Volleyball
  • Cricket

Japanese International Program

At the beginning of Term, we welcomed four Japanese students to the College, who joined the boarding community for Term 3. We are excited to host the boys and look forward to ensuring that they have a wonderful time at Saints.

We also look forward to hosting 25 students, boys and girls, who will be visiting Cairns from Torei Gakuen High School in Japan. These students and two staff members will be staying in boarding in weeks four and five.

Birthday Celebrations - We know how to throw a memorable party in boarding.
