Wrapping Up Term 2

Term 2 was a very productive and busy term for the members of the SRC! We have been working very hard to ensure we have the best interests of the school at heart through many different events and surveys.

As SRC, we filmed for the website and other publications on Thursday the 23rd of March. Organised by Miss Smith, photos and videos were taken of us for the school website, and these can now be viewed on the school’s website. Thank you Miss Smith!

Wednesday May 3rd was the college’s annual Open Night. Parents and potential students of the school for 2024 participated in a range of games and activities such as decorating cupcakes. They have also explored the school and toured the facilities. The members of SRC volunteered to lead the tour group for the open night showing the parents and potential students around the school. We had a great turnout!

Additionally, Monday 22nd May was our Student vs. Staff Bake Off. We had many amazing entries from both staff and students. The Great Cheltenham Bake Off was organised to raise money for Cancer Council. This event successfully helped raise $305, all of which was donated to this amazing charity.

Wednesday 17th May was the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia, or IDAHOBIT, where we wore casual clothes on Friday the 26th to show support for inclusivity. This was a massive success that could not have been possible without our hardworking SRC members, and the feedback from students encouraging us to initiate another casual clothes day.

Finally, in the past few SRC meetings, all members of the SRC discussed the topic of pastoral care, what it is, and the students’ feedback and opinions on pastoral care as a subject. Pastoral care can be defined as the practice of supporting the general wellbeing of students and the school community. We aim to gather these thoughts and ideas through sub-school surveys which will be conducted at the start of next term to provide us with an insight of how to improve pastoral care for the students.

We look forward to returning for term 3 with more ideas and passion to make the school a better place for the students of Cheltenham Secondary College!
