National Youth Science Forum  |  Year 7 Science  |  Year 9 Science  |  Year 10 Science

Our superstar Year 12 student, Tobias, presented to Cheltenham Rotary Club on Wednesday 14th June. Tobias was sponsored by the club to take part in the National Youth Science Forum in January this year. He spoke about the many interesting activities which he took part in and the great opportunity to meet inspiring speakers and researchers who were innovators in their fields. Tobias intends to pursue his interests in science further and is already undertaking a unit at University while he completes Year 12. He keeps in touch with the like-minded students he met while taking part in the program. We are very proud of Tobias and the other Cheltenham students, Natalie M. and Siena G. who also took part in the forum, giving up valuable holiday time to expand their horizons.

Year 7 Science

In their Year 7 science class, students conducted experiments to investigate mixtures, exploring how different substances can mix together with varying results. They also explored the concept of solubility, testing various substances to determine their ability to dissolve in water.

Year 9 Science

In their Year 9 science class, students delved into the fascinating world of the visible spectrum and the science of colour. They conducted experiments to explore how white light can be separated into its constituent colours through the use of colour filters. Through hands-on activities and investigations, students gained a deeper understanding of how different wavelengths of light give rise to the vibrant colours we perceive in the world around us.

Enhancement group students had the opportunity to extend their chemistry endeavours through the use of more sophisticated and delicate equipment such as pipettes and burettes to perform acid-base titrations.

Year 10 Science:

As their core studies concluded, Year 10 Students conducted a series of small investigations relating to wilderness survival skills such as building a fire, purifying water, crafting fishing rods, as well as practising injury treatment and wound suturing on potato and banana skin.
