WELC & International Student Report
Summer Bao & Andy Tran
The last few weeks of term have been very busy in WELC. Twenty-five students will be exiting the Language Centre and have been doing Transition classes. On Wednesday we will hold a graduation ceremony for these students and look forward to performances by the WELC students.
WELC students participated in a health screening program Friday Week 8. The program was successfully run by Nurse Danielle Mitchelle. A total of 24 students were examined and screened for vision, hearing and oral health. They will also be provided with a report later.
On Monday all the WELC students went to SEALIFE Melbourne for the city excursion. They participated in a two-hour guided session in the aquarium, observed marine animals and acquired new words and phrases through this hands-on experience. They also explored the city through a city walk scavenger hunt activity where they familiarised themselves with the landmarks and surroundings as part of cultural learning. It is wonderful to see our students actively participated in activities outside of the school.
The last day of Term 3 is Friday 23 June and students will have two weeks’ holiday. School will resume on 10 July. Students will be expected to continue to wear winter uniform, including ties.
Debby Morgan who has been on long service leave will come back next term. I personally feel very fortunate to have spent this whole term with our amazing students and staff at WELC. I’m impressed with the great work ethics and positive learning behaviours our students have exhibited, and with the wonderful, inclusive learning environment our teachers have strived to establish and maintain.
We also had Wolfgang Kessler come in this term and teach the WELC students how to cook Singapore noodles.
We encourage all students to continue to practise their English over the holidays. We wish all students a happy and safe holiday, and look forward to seeing them again in Term 3. We wish success for all those students transferring to other schools.

Hi everyone, I'm Andy Tran, the acting international student coordinator at Westall while Debby Morgan is on leave. I can't contain my excitement about the incredible Term 3 we've had in our International Student Program (ISP)! Brace yourselves for a whirlwind of events and activities that have left us all buzzing with joy and connection.
Korean BBQ Extravaganza
Fire up your taste buds and get ready for a culinary extravaganza like no other. We pulled out all the stops to organise an unforgettable Korean BBQ feast for our amazing international students, both current and newly arrived. Not only did it serve as a platform for students to socialise and forge new friendships, but it also provided a much-needed break from their rigorous studies. We understand that many of our international students are far away from their families, so this event offered them a chance to unwind and recharge. A heartfelt shout-out goes to the incredible staff members who graced the occasion and supported our students throughout the night: Mr. Tickner, Ms. Huyen N, Ms. Khampheuy M, Ms. Tanya H, and Mr. Kevin P. Your presence made all the difference!
Embarking on a journey of discovery, our international students had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the mesmerising landmarks of Melbourne. Our international students gathered at Flinders Street Station and walked over to Federation Square, the vibrant epicenter of culture and creativity, before setting sail on an unforgettable city cruise.
This adventure was especially significant for our newly arrived students, as it unveiled the captivating secrets of Melbourne's landmarks. The excitement was palpable as they marveled at the architectural wonders and embraced the vibrant energy of the city. With the support and enthusiasm, Ms Huyen, Ms Khampheuy, Ms Tanya, Ms Vasilakis, Mr T, Mr H Tran, and Mr Kevin made this adventure even more extraordinary for our international students.
Birthdays are meant to be celebrated, and celebrate we did! Our monthly birthday celebrations for May and June were nothing short of delightful. We honoured our international students' special days creating a joyful atmosphere filled with laughter, cake, and shared memories. It's heart warming to witness the bonds formed within our international student community, where we celebrate not only our diverse cultures but also the unique individuals who make our program shine.
But wait, there's more! Our ISP at Westall isn't just about these incredible events; we're constantly exploring new ways to foster cultural exchange, provide unwavering support, and create unforgettable experiences for our international students. Stay tuned for more fascinating updates and remarkable initiatives that will continue to shape our program and the lives of our cherished international students. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ms Huyen, Ms Khampheuy, Ms Tanya and all the staff members for their ongoing support with the ISP at Westall.
