Scanning electron microscope at Westall Secondary College on 22nd of May – 2nd of June
A scanning electron microscope uses electrons to beam an image of the surface of the sample which can magnify images up to 10,000 times. This equipment is different to our normal light microscope as we can see through samples and can only magnify up to 1,000 times. We were lucky to have this equipment at our school for 2 weeks and most of our science classes had time to use and explore this equipment. We looked at pollen, leaves, sand, salt crystals and even parts of insects! The images are shown are a tick’s head at x150 magnification and sand at x1,000. A big thank you to our Science team and especially Ms Smrithi Buyya and Ms Jennifer Phillips for supporting us!
