Mission & Identity

Mission & Identity

Term 3 has gone very quickly with a very strong emphasis on assessments. Within my classrooms this term students have shared their triumphs and disappointments in their results in many of their subjects. For many success has come easily, but for other students the road to the results that they hope for has been challenging. I have had the privileged position of seeing a holistic overview of these results and there are two observations I would like to make.

Firstly everyone is born with different gifts and what we often fail to recognise is that each of us is unique. Whilst I love music, I know that I will never have a good voice but I still sing loudly from the heart. If we were all good at the same thing then life would perhaps be a little boring.

Secondly, to react to a good or bad outcome in an assessment one must honestly ask the question ‘Have I done my best?’   If the answer is yes, then I have achieved the result that is excellent for me and there is cause for celebration. Our potential is not something that we can ignore or devalue. Potential is given by God and warrants both respect and hard work. Our school motto ‘Fide et Labore’ is so appropriate as each of us is called to nurture it in everything we do.

I ask you to continue to keep Year 12 in your prayers as they approach the final weeks of preparation for their HSC. Special thanks to our Mission and Identity Prefects who have served our community so well in their roles:  Ben Di Tommaso, James Spencer and Nick Parker.

This will be my final column for 2018. I handover to Mr Ed Codsi who will take on the role of Assistant Principal Mission and Identity for Term 4 as I take leave. I continue to thank you for your support of the Mission and Identity Team and wish you every blessing for the remainder of 2018.
