Principal's Report
Principal's Report
The Camden Exchange has come and gone for another year. There is a far more detailed report in this Newsletter, but I want to reflect on my observations of this year’s exchange. Although the scoreboard may have been a little one sided, I am extremely proud and pleased with the way our students represented our school. All games were played with sportsmanship and a never give up spirit. It was wonderful watching the students from both schools play hard and then walk off the field as friends, often friendships that have developed over years. The exchange would not happen without a lot of support from parents and teachers, but I particularly want to thank Mr Johnstone who coordinated the Cowra end of the student billeting and Mr Berry who oversaw the organization of Cowra’s involvement. Both these tasks require many hours of personal time, but I know both would agree it was worth every minute.
For the first time in many years Cowra High participated in the Coonabarabran Equestrian Expo. It is very pleasing to report that our students performed very well, particularly for their first involvement. Although each rider has a specialty, each was willing to give multiple disciplines a go. Even so, they did well and were awarded multiple ribbons. I thank Mrs Pattingale and the dedicated parents who spent many hours preparing and assisting the students.
The schools Rugby League team played in the Tom Kemp semi final last Wednesday. The boys played hard and successfully moved to the next round. I congratulate them on this success and look forward to their next game.
I was very proud to be told that our own Zoe Budge was last week asked to sing the Australian national anthem at the opening of the National Party conference. We are aware of how wonderful Zoe’s voice is, but it is always fantastic when our talent is recognized by others. I recommend everyone take the time to visit our Facebook page and experience her performance. Congratulations Zoe.
While in Cowra, Deputy Premier the Hon. John Barilaro, Assistant Minister of Education the Hon. Sarah Mitchell and the Hon. Stephanie Cooke MLC visited our school to announce we will be one of the first schools to have our heating and cooling upgraded with the NSW Government budget commitment. I look forward to receiving more details in the near future and sharing them with you.
Next week Year 12 Trial HSC examinations will commence. I encourage all students to use the time leading up to these exams to prepare carefully and consolidate all their study. Along these lines I am pleased that so many Year 12 students have taken the opportunity to attend the HSC seminar days being held in Bathurst this Tuesday. To help we are paying for the transport, only leaving a cost of $40 for the students, including the seminars, morning tea and lunch.
Have a wonderful fortnight.

Olivia to attend Global Youth Leaders Conference
Year 12 student Olivia Perkins will attend the Global Youth Leaders Conference (GYLC) taking place in Washington DC and New York City from July 16 2018 to July 25 2018. Olivia will also be participating in both the Pre-Program and Cultural Extension Program as part of her visit.
GYLC is a unique leadership development program that brings together outstanding young people from around the world to build critical leadership skills in a global context. Students meet with top business leaders, diplomats, policy officials and academics and are encouraged to build skills in issues analysis, forming and advocating positions and ultimately influencing sound decision making. Students return home from GYLC with a greater understanding of their roles and responsibilities as citizens and future leaders of the global community.
Cowra High School has proudly nominated Olivia as she meets all essential criteria for GYLC participants in the areas of academic achievement and leadership. We look forward to continuing to support Olivia in her endeavours of the GYLC experience and reaping the benefits of what Olivia learns and returns with to mutually benefit the Cowra High School.

As the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is rolled out across Australia, this paper asks for your feedback on how supported school transport could work under the NDIS.
This is your opportunity to have your say via a submission on how you would like to see supported school transport operate in our State. The consultation period will end on 20 July at 5:00pm.
There will be some face-to-face consultations held throughout the state, full details will be updated on their website when they are available.
