Seikei Luncheon

Delicious luncheon enjoyed by students

Our trip to Japan is fast approaching!  On Friday June 1 we had a luncheon to get in the spirit and enjoy some Japanese food.  Some of the wonderful creations included; okonomiyaki, gyoza, tempura, curries, green tea, sushi and lots of rice.  A big thank you to all our cooks, the students had a fantastic time!  Mr Bates and Mrs Perkins spent time explaining and demonstrating their expertise with chopsticks, some practice is needed before we head off! Thanks to everyone for their enthusiasm and care with our cuisine.

An update from Ashleigh

Recently the Mayor of Cowra, Bill West, came to Japan along with Mrs Judy Smith and Mr Paul Devery.  It was a pleasure to have them at Seikei and it was nice to see some fellow Australians.  I know that the other exchange students had fun meeting and spending time with them.

We've also had our sports festival, which was super fun.  Everyone had to play dodgeball rather than different sports because it was raining.  It was okay because I got to experience the way Japanese play dodgeball.  My class played really well and we won our grade.  We were so happy because at one stage we thought we had lost the game.  The team won a trophy at the end of the day.

On Sunday May 27 the exchange students and I went to Kyoto and had an amazing trip.

First we met at Kichijoji Station at 7am and rode on the Shinkansen for 4 hours.  Once we arrived in Kyoto we went to the Itsukashima Shrine and it was surrounded by deer.  It was an amazing experience as we were able to get so close to the deer and I was even able to touch and get a picture with a deer.  Alyssa (a student from USA) and Xay (a student from China) kept getting attacked by the deer.  The deer would chase them, giving them little nips.  It was hilarious!  After seeing the shrine we were allowed free time to go shopping.

The next day we went to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and the Atomic Bomb Memorial Museum.  To be honest, I fell apart while in the museum..we all did.

After Kyoto we went to Fushimi Inari.  Unfortunately we couldn't stay long because it was getting dark.  For our last activity of the day we went to a textile centre.  It was so much fun.

On the third day of the excursion we dressed up as Maiko San and got to walk around for a few minutes in a Kimono.  It was so much fun!  After the Maiko San experience we ate Tsujiri parfait.  I got a Matcha flavour parfait and it was delicious.  We then went to a kanji museum and had a lot of fun playing kanji games but it was super hard!  Afterwards we visited the Tadaiji temple to see the big Buddha and others.  We looked through a hole that was the size of what Buddha's nose would be.  It was so small!

Unfortunately it was raining on our last day but we still visited the bamboo forest.  It was so hard to take photos without getting wet.  We finally visited the Golden Pavilion.  It was really beautiful.

So that was my Kyoto trip.  I had lots of fun and have made so many more memories.  I am truly loving my time here.
