DIO Tennis Trials

Last Thursday, the Diocesan Tennis Teams Event was held at Bolton Park. Wagga teams Kildare and Mater Dei, Albury’s Xavier, Leeton’s St Francis and Griffith’s Marian College competed for the title of Diocesan Team Champions.

Each team played singles and doubles matches with the team with the most points at the end of the day going through to the next round. Doubles games were the best of eight while the singles were the best of six with short deuces being played due to the hot weather.

Our girl’s team of Liv Jones, Tayla Lees, Bessie Lawrence and Ada Richards played well and demonstrated excellent behaviour both on and off the court.  They won their matches against Marian and St Francis and came fourth overall. Special mention must be given to Liv Jones, who continued to play despite an uncomfortable injury.

The boys, Trey Murphy, Tom Gardiner, Charlie and Max Prest were the standout team among the boys' competition winning 138 games out of 160. They will now continue with the competition to defend their title as the NSW CCC team champions at Bathurst in June.
