Year 8's Got Talent

As part of the Year 8 Music focus on 'Popular Music' this term, students in the three Year 8 classes of Semester 2 formed bands and selected their own repertoire, which they performed for each other in St Eugenes in Week 7. This task allows for students to work in learning teams to build skills on an instrument of their own choosing. Students have been working on the task for 6 weeks, and were given both peer and teacher feedback before delivering a finished product to their peers and Music teachers. The repertoire chosen was varied, including 'Riptide', 'Pumped Up Kicks', 'Sunshine of my love' and 'Skinny Love' and instrumentation included drums, guitar, bass, vocals, piano, ukulele and cello.
Stage 5 Music Night
The evening of the 14th November saw our Years 9 and 10 elective music classes present a twilight concert showcasing their efforts during the term. Students from our Year 9 class opened the concert with wonderful renditions of songs such as Here Comes the Sun, Iron Man and Green Onions. Year 10 then took to the stage to present work from their unit on film music. Year 10 performed songs including Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Pirates of the Caribbean and I Heard it through the Grapevine, before closing the concert with Pink Floyd’s Another Brick in the Wall. Well done to all of the students involved and thank you to the large audience that came along to support our musicians.
Caloola Centre Performance
On Wednesday afternoon our Chamber Ensemble and Wind Ensemble travelled to BaptistCare’s Caloola Aged Care Centre to perform for residents. Students performed for approximately 30 minutes for a good sized audience of high care residents. The Wind Ensemble performed songs from their repertoire of funky tunes including Stevie Wonder’s Isn’t She Lovely and Metallica’s Enter Sandman. The two ensembles combined for a performance of September by Earth, Wind and Fire before the Chamber Ensemble pleased the audience with some Christmas Songs. Thanks to our musicians who are all very busy at this time of the year and the Caloola Centre for inviting us to come and play.
