The Wordsmiths

This Semester, the Year 5/6 Amazing Authors have been very busy honing their writing skills in a variety of different ways.  Their work has been published on the Middle Years Amazing Authors blog: http://myamazingauthors.weebly.com/. They’d love if it if you could take some time to read their work and leave some positive and constructive feedback!

This semester in Amazing Authors we have been busy because of all the writing we have been doing. We have been learning how to use the five senses to enhance our writing. We have also used a lot of adjectives to make our writing pieces more interesting.

Lately we have been writing texts to persuade people to come to The Lakes. We had to include a range of arguments and supporting evidence.  We then made videos using our text as a script.

Next term we will be going to the Melbourne Writers Festival to see a great author, Graeme Base. He has made wonderful books such as The Legend Of The Golden Snail, Jungle Drums and Uno's Garden.

Thanks for reading,

Andre Yr5

Hello, I'm Mackenzie M from Amazing Authors and I'm here to share what we've been doing this semester.

We started off by fighting an army of evil cows trying to take over the world! Nah, I'm just kidding, we started off by writing narratives that could be about fighting cows trying to take over the world. To give us topics to write about Laura posted a folder of pictures on Showbie for us to look at. She also taught us about Freytag's pyramid (to help us with plot structure) and VCOP (vocabulary, connectives, openers, punctuation). Laura also helped some of us write shorter stories.

After we finished narratives we moved on to defeating the evil cows one by one. Nope, I'm just kidding (again). We moved on to writing descriptive pieces. We learnt about using the five senses in our writing so we can deeply describe our battle with the cows. We have learnt to use adjectives to describe something deeply and make the reader feel like they’re in the story with us.

We finished off this semester by celebrating our victory because we defeated the cows. Hang on a second why are cows such a big part of this writing piece? We had nothing to do with them all semester.
