A Good Sign

Students across Prep to Year 6 have been learning to sign in Auslan. Year 5 students explain what they have worked on this term:

Auslan is a fun, let me tell you why! Auslan is a language but instead of using your mouth, you use your hands. In my opinion I believe it is more fun than learning a spoken language. I think everyone should learn Auslan. Thank you for reading!

This year in Auslan we have been learning about how it would be like to be deaf. When some people can't hear at all that means they are deaf. Some Deaf people can have a hearing piece called the Cochlear implant which helps deaf people hear. It goes around your ear and then into to it and has a little cord that hooks inside of your ear and helps you hear. We also have watched videos about how deaf people live and what schools they go to. Some of them went to a school for the deaf and some even went to a non-deaf school. Some deaf students had some help by their teacher writing it on the white board but he still said it was tough. Some people had interpreters to show them what another person might be saying.

Thanks for reading.

In Auslan with Harry we've been learning about deaf people in the past.  How deaf people communicate and other deaf people and hearing people all together. In the future we will be, going on an incursion in the Middle Years gym to see a play with actors and Auslan interpreters.

Auslan Club

We are in Auslan club and this term we have been learning the Australian National Anthem in Auslan. At first it was bit tricky but we kept practising each week. We were excited to share at Assembly but were a little bit nervous. We performed the National Anthem in Auslan at the start of the Assembly. We are looking forward to teaching the National Anthem to the other year levels.
