Principal's Report
Report
Last Friday night we held one of our major events for the year, our Year 12 Formal. The students looked fabulous and I believe had an evening that befit their great achievement in completing the HSC. Mr Donnelly as Year Advisor, with a hardworking team of staff and student helpers, had the venue looking spectacular and put a program together that celebrated the positive conclusion of the students' Secondary Education. For the first time in many years the decision was made to move the Formal off site. With input from students the decision was made to hold the Formal at the Cowra Services Club. I believe the venue proved that the right decision was made, with the staff and management of the Club going out of their way to ensure everything ran smoothly. I think I can speak confidently when I say Year 12 and I are equally grateful to all those who went out of their way to create such a wonderful occasion.
Although we now look forward to seeing the students HSC results on 14 December, we can also celebrate more than a dozen students already receiving offers of early entry into university. I'm sure there will be more offers to come and more celebrations.
Earlier this week, Year 10 experienced their first formal school examinations. For three days these End of Year exams were held in the school hall, providing important assessment data for teachers and also providing the students with valuable exam experience. Although marking still continues, the feedback from the process has been very positive and Year 10 approaching them in a respectful manner throughout the time. I should point out that although exams have occurred, the Year 10 course continues until the end of the year and students are still required to attend every day.
Next week we have four groups heading off to the NSW Schools Spectacular. With students performing as featured dancers, in the dance ensemble, in the Aboriginal dance ensemble and for the first time, in the drama component, Cowra High is well and truly represented on the stage in this extremely prestigious event. I also acknowledge for the first time we have a student as part of the backstage crew. To be selected for any of these roles is an outstanding accomplishment in itself. I congratulate each and everyone and wish them the best for when they perform.
Have a good fortnight
