Melton Secondary College Students Shine Again...
Strong VCE Results
Students at Melton Secondary College are showing they can achieve even greater levels of success with effort and persistence reaping rewards. This year's VCE results showed continued improvement with the school All Study mean rising from 25.1 in 2015 to 26.4 in 2016. This result reflected higher study scores in many of our VCE subjects and three years of steady improvement. Students and staff are to be congratulated in this fantastic achievement.
Awards Night
When effort and ability stand out at Melton Secondary College, we take note and celebrate. For this reason, the annual college Awards Night is one of the most significant occasions in the year. The college Five-STARR Values were clearly evident with eighty-eight different awards and scholarships being presented to students. The night began with an outstanding key note speech by past Melton Secondary College student, Karen Sutherland. Karen graduated in 1994 and went on to forge a highly successful career in the media and public relations. Her own studies earned her a Doctorate in the field of social media and she now lectures at the University of the Sunshine Coast. Karen's address provided an excellent case for young people to strive for the satisfaction and pleasure that comes from hard work and persistence, as opposed to the idea that that hard work is 'nerdy' and 'uncool'.
College Dux for 2016, Taylor Kershaw certainly demonstrated this attitude and proved that success is its own reward. His outstanding VCE results resulted in him achieving the highest academic award for the year and an ATAR that will allow him to pursue his dream studying Medical Sciences. Well done Taylor!
The Bill Drummond Trophy acknowledges sporting talent and achievement and is a perpetual memorial to a highly talented and fondly remembered past Melton Secondary College student. The award is presented annually by Bill's mother Pam Drummond. Mrs Drummond presented certificates to the Senior Boy Sports champion Ryan Carter and Senior Girl Sports champion Emily Bibby.
A long list of academic and community awards were also presented by college staff and by representatives from Melton City Council, Melton Valley Rotary, Melton Zonta Club, the Australian Defense Force, and local business Amla Services. The college is extremely appreciative of the many valued members of our community and local businesses who either attended or gave generously to make our Awards Night so successful.
