Principal's News

FROM THE ACTING PRINCIPAL

Schools are always extremely busy places. This is particularly true for us at CRC Sydenham for us at CRC Sydenham at this time of year as the largest Catholic Senior Secondary College in the state.

Our Year 12 VCE students are well into their revision programs which include practice exams. Teachers will provide students with important feedback form these exams which will guide them in their preparations for the externally set exams which commence on Wednesday October 26. Year 12 VCAL students are also finalising the requirements of their learning programs and planning for their transition to further study or employment. We wish all of our students well in pursuing their aspirations and will do all that we can as a College to continue to support them as they progress on their individual pathway. In particular, we look forward to celebrating their achievement in completing secondary education through the Graduating Mass and Ceremony which is to be held at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Friday October 14 at 7.00pm. The Graduation is a great opportunity for our community to celebrate in the success of our students and to share in this significant moment in their lives.

Our Year 11 VCE and VCAL students still have several weeks of classes to attend. However, Year 11 VCE students are also preparing for end of year exams. These exams are an important form of practice for the external exams that they will sit in 2017. Year 11 VCAL students should have started to develop a clearer perspective of their future pathway and will have commenced planning the manner in which they will move into further study or employment.

In addition to Graduation on October 14, we are also looking forward to SYDFEST on Wednesday October 19. With guests including Kevin Muscat from Melbourne Victory and Olympic gold medallist Lauren Burns, we anticipate this being a fantastic celebration of student achievement in the areas of art, technology, sports and vocational training.

The amount of activity that occurs at this time of year can add significant stress to the lives of our students. We urge all families to make contact with the relevant Tutor Teacher or Cluster Coordinator at the College if they are concerned about the wellbeing or learning progress of their child. The College endeavours to work in partnership with families at all times in helping our young people to be their best and to achieve their best. We are called, as Catholics, to be the best people we can be, to serve one another, to take the words of Jesus and to bring them to life. We are challenged to make the world a better place for ourselves, for our children, our families and for the broader community.

STUDENT LEADERSHIP GROUP 2017

The College is very pleased to announce the students who have been successful in gaining a place in the Student Leadership Group next year. We are buoyed by the energy of these students and look forward to the contribution that they will inevitably make to the College in their final year of secondary schooling.  As Jesus said “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all” (Mark 9:35). The following students have expressed a clear vision in how they will lead and serve the student body and will provide a student voice in decision making at the College in 2017.
