Trial examinations

During week one of this term, students completing a Unit 3/4 subject undertook trial examinations for each of their classes. These trial examinations were a compulsory process providing students with timed practice and a formative assessment review of their knowledge of the course thus far. Staff will be marking these examinations in a timely manner and providing feedback to students and parents via a summary report, which will be available via the PAM portal on Monday 18th October. Students should be using the results of these examinations to tailor revision programs in preparation for the examinations commencing on the 26th October with the English Examination.

SUPPORTING STUDENTS DURING EXAMINATIONS

As students begin to develop routines for examination review, Parents begin to ask, “what can we do to help?” The Parentline website (https://www.parentline.com.au/parenting-information/tip-sheets/exam-stress.php accessed 5th October 2016) provides parents with some tips on helping your child during this time, some of which are included below:

Ensure your child eats a healthy and balanced diet
encourage them to get adequate amounts of sleep
provide a quiet and comfortable place to study free from distraction
ensure they get physical and mental breaks as well as time to interact with their family by getting them to join you for their meals
encourage them to exercise regularly, especially outdoors, as this helps students cope with mental stress and allows them to recharge
ensure your child maintains some balance in their life, including helping them to factor in some relaxation time so they can pursue their hobbies or interest.
provide plenty of encouragement and reassurance
try and stay as relaxed as possible as this will help your child to relax as well
laugh and share some relaxing time with your teenager; this will help clear cobwebs from their mind and create a positive mood
be careful not to set unrealistic expectations about exam results or their future study and career options
try to avoid arguments over minor matters, and reduce their workload around the house as their study requirements increase.

On the days of exams, we suggest you ensure your child:

has a good night’s sleep
eats a healthy breakfast
arrives with sufficient time before their exam. You should check their examination timetable and make sure they know where they have to go prior to the actual exam day.

YEAR 12 2016 VCE/VCAL TRANSITION PROGRAM: NOVEMBER 21 TO DECEMBER 2 –

ATTENDANCE IS COMPULSORY FOR ALL STUDENTS

The Transition Program is an integral component to the successful commencement of Year 12. Due to the importance that is placed upon effective transition into this final year of education, the College will be extending the program to a 2-week block in 2016. The College is determined to provide the best possible start for our students in this vital final year of their secondary education. As such, it is compulsory for all current Year 11 students who are returning to study at the College to attend all classes during this program. The program takes place from Monday 21 NOVEMBER to Friday 2 DECEMBER. During this time teachers will commence the delivery of learning programs as part of Year 12 studies in VCAL, VCE and VET.

Students will experience an introduction to the course content in each of their units of study in Unit 3. All staff will commence teaching the Year 12 course material for their subject areas. Homework will be set and checked in the follow-up session within this transition period. Specific study and work requirements to be completed upon return to the 2016 school year will also be set.

It is important that all families at the College in 2016 are familiar with the Student Attendance, Achievement and Promotion Policy. One aspect of this policy is that students must attend all classes at the College, with unapproved absences not exceeding more than two hundred and fifty minutes of class time for each specific subject within a semester of study. Students exceeding this amount of unapproved absence within a given subject will receive an N result for the specific unit due to not fulfilling the attendance requirements. As we commence semester one studies at the College during the transition period, any absences accrued during this time will count towards absence totals in semester one in 2017. As such, students who are absent during this period must contact the College and provide a medical certificate for the absence to be approved. As these students will have fallen behind their fellow students, they are responsible for collecting any work they have missed and for the completion of the holiday homework.

Shorts Navy Blue with CRC monogram. Worn with navy blue socks. (Summer Only)
Shirt white short sleeve shirt with CRC monogram.
Jumper CRC Jumper can only be worn to and from the College if under the Blazer.
Tie optional. If worn the tie is to be done up to the shirt collar and worn correctly.
Shoes Black leather lace up school shoes. No street shoes or black runners.
