Science Talent Search

This year we had 4 students from Year 8 enter the Victorian Science Talent Search for 2021. The theme of the competition for this year was ‘Food Different by Design”. Students could elect to use this theme or they could select their own scientific themes to investigate for the tasks undertaken. The students doing the competition this year decided to pair up and do their own Science themes, which are outlined below.

Year 8: Param Dave and Salil Gudup – developed a working model called “Fuel Initiative”

Year 8: Jamie Katic and Alexander Tari – created a video called “Radiation”

Param, Salil, Jamie and Alexander worked very hard on developing their science tasks and to their credit; they persisted as we went into lockdown during the time of the competition. Very pleasingly, both groups did very well in the competition.

Salil and Param received a Merit certificate and were given positive encouragement for their wonderful idea of looking for alternative energy to power electric cars.

Jamie Katic and Alexander Tari‘s "Radiation" received a Minor Bursary award in the Junior secondary section for videos. This means that Alexander and Jamie will receive a monetary cheque from the Science Talent Search committee for winning this award. Both Jamie and Alexander will be attending the Victorian Science Talent Search Awards Ceremony on the 8th November to receive their awards.

Glen Eira College would like to extend our congratulations to these students on their participation in this event and the excellent results they achieved.
