TERM 4
Although the continuation of Art Home Learning this term has kept us away from getting our hands dirty in the actual Art Room, virtual Art has presented us with some wonderful opportunities to flex our drawing skills and stretch our imaginations. Drawing is such an important skill. As well as being portable - meaning you can draw almost anywhere (yes, even under water!) it's a skill that allows us to communicate our ideas, tell a story and help us make sense of the world around us. The senior grades were privileged, to work alongside Australian writer/illustrator Shaun Tan in a virtual Draw-Along session called "Expect the Unexpected". You may be familiar with such titles as "The Rabbits", "Eric", "The Visitor" and "The Red Tree".
Students watched Shaun draw, listened to him tell stories of his childhood and heard first hand, the ideas and inspirations Shaun draws from for his books. Then we were invited to draw with him and create some characters of our own.
A new exhibition space was set up for the students to share their drawings for this session. This space is called PADLET - a secure, members only platform where students can see each other's work and leave a positive comment. Take a look at some of the drawings that were shared.
