Boarding

On Saturday I took my two girls to Harrow to see the Harrow/Balmoral Roos in action. It was lovely to catch up with so many College families and see our boarders play some great footy. I was also lucky enough to see Tyler Hateley receive the Blue Ribbon award for outstanding sportsmanship and spirit. Unfortunately, we had to leave early after both daughters fell in the giant puddles on the playground and were soaked through. We had a great drive home with both girls naked and the heater turned up to the max.

Twenty-two boarders attended Melbourne University Open Day on Sunday. It was a big day of bus travel but hopefully everyone found the day worthwhile. We bumped into Old Collegian Taku Mahwendepi and it was lovely to catch up with him.

Wellness Week is my second favourite week of the year behind National Boarding Week. We have been using the compliment board again this year and it’s is lovely to see how willing our boarders are to write nice things about their peers.

On Wednesday night, we were lucky enough to have Andrew Cavill and Jo McCure join us for dinner and speak to the boarders. Andrew spoke about the importance of sharing feelings and Jo explored some stress management techniques. We are blessed here to have such wonderful parents who are willing to give back to the boarding community.

Other Wellness Week activities included games each night at dinner. Phoebe Russell (Youngest Boarder) had a massive “paper, scissors, rocks” win over Gail which allowed youngest-to-oldest order for dinner. We also had a cleanest room competition on Thursday for Open Day and all rooms looked amazing. On Friday morning, the Year 12 girls will be joining Amy at our residence for a special brekky and a chance to catch up and have a look around the house. We have also had a group of talented boarders come together preparing vigorously for College Has Talent on Friday. I’m backing them to take out the night.

Best of luck to the College Magpies for their Grand Final on Friday Night.
