Science Week

Science Week has been celebrated with a host of fun and engaging activities held during lunchtimes last week. The Science Centre and Middle Years Centre were full of students enjoying the following activities:

  • Handling and feeding the animals in the Science Centre. Our resident Bearded Dragon was well fed after the students were enthralled as to how she would hunt and eat her prey. The younger students also enjoyed looking at a variety of pond creatures under the microscope.
  • A very competitive round of Science related Kahoot Quizzes. The Year 12s attempted to out-do the younger students with some success.
  • Wet and Muddy Water Rockets! It was a continual stream of high and loud rocket launches on the oval – the catching of the returning rockets was just as fun as the launching.
  • There was lots of sparks and smoke as a glucose gummy bear was sacrificed in an impressive combustion reaction.
  • Gooey slime in a variety of colours appealed to all ages, and was a big hit for our last day.

Thank you to the Science Staff who helped with these activities.

2019 Year 9 & 10 Information Night

The Information Night for 2019 Year 9 and 10 students will be held next Wednesday, August 29 in the Simons Auditorium. 2019 Year 9 students and parents should arrive at 5.00pm and 2019 Year 10 students and parents should arrive at 6.15pm. These two sessions will look at the arrangements for camps and activities that are specific to each year level.

At 7.00pm, a combined session will be held for both year levels, which will outline subject selection and pathways. After this combined session, students and parents will have an opportunity to meet with teachers to discuss individual subject areas.

This is an important night to assist students with their subject choices for next year and to help students to prepare for the camps and trips involved at Year 9 and Year 10 levels.

If you are unable to attend, students will be given all the handouts at school the next day.  If you need more information please contact Mr Ralph Carolan, Deputy Principal Teaching and Learning about subjects, Mrs Winter Cooke about the Year 9 Experience or Mr Alexander about the camps.  We will be happy to discuss any questions you might have.
