Music

Playworlds, Aboriginal stories, Rhythm and Games!

The Kindergarten and the Fives children have been exploring animal songs in music!  So far, we have been to the Jungle, the Farm and the Zoo! Through the wonder of our imaginations, we have explored animal habitats, families and sounds, as well as similarities and differences between different animals and ourselves.  We have enjoyed dancing, singing and playing instruments, and look forward to using our imaginations further in the coming weeks to discover new worlds together!

The Lofties are writing songs inspired by Aboriginal stories and music this term.  We have been discovering how the First People lived through books and videos, kindling our own expression and interpretations of stories by writing lyrics and musical sounds. The children have enjoyed playing rhythm sticks to develop rhythmic ideas in their song-writing. We have enjoyed performing our own songs - we can’t wait to write more and share them with you!

The Sunroom and Peppercorns are developing their knowledge of rhythm, melody, notation and bar structures. Through musical games and playing xylophones, we are building further understanding of the division of beats and bars, as well as discovering what rhythms sound more interesting to us. We are looking forward to writing and performing original pieces in groups at the end of term one.
