Welcome New Boarders

It was a warm welcome back to the Boarding House for term 3 this week. With open arms we applauded our 13 new boarders. Boarders have been buddied up and have hit the road running. Although a little surprised by the hectic pace of boarding life, they have all survived their first week. The first of many positive weeks to come. I asked one of our new boarders, Young An, what his first impressions were. Yong was surprised by the quietness of Hamilton in comparison to Phnom Penh,  he has already made some good friendships in the boarding house and senior school, but, his most memorable moment so far has been to stand up in the school assembly and be welcomed by the entire College. Young An is one of many new boarders this term and he, like others, is certainly looking forward to joining in on the weekend activities we have planned over the semester.

Over the holidays our boarders rested and relaxed with family and friends, many of which were fortunate enough to take a holiday in warmer weather. And, as part of our positive education approach in the boarding house this term we challenged our boarders to provide a positive and energising photo to share from their holiday. Some were simply amazing.

Jonathan Lee sent in a wonderful photo of himself, Airlie Treloar and Vicky Zhu enjoying the sights of Hong Kong; here they are at Disneyland.

Celebrating community success.

Boarding life is simply not about living in a residence with other boarders, it is also about being engaged with the community you live, interacting in a purposeful way and immersing yourself in local life. Alannah Sander exemplifies this. She has recently been recognised for her work at the local Indoor Leisure and Aquatic Centre (HILAC). Alannah is the employee of the month and was selected for her ability to instil positive values such as, respect, trust, teamwork, and innovation. Well done Alannah.

Casual boarding.

Have you ever considered casual boarding? With our after-school programs in full-swing and our day school students taking these opportunities with determination our boarding houses can offer a comfortable place for an evening or two. When a casual boarder finishes their after-school commitment they are able to be picked up by our driver and brought back to the boarding house. Here they enjoy dinner, academic assistance, super supper (on a Wednesday), a warm and comfortable bed for the night with breakfast and lunch the following day. Casual boarding is becoming a popular choice for families and their children of all ages, and I encourage any family to consider this option for their son or daughter.

If you would like to trial boarding, experience the benefits of casual boarding or simply enquire about boarding in general please do not hesitate in contacting Susie Holcomb or myself.
