Year 11 Photography

Yr 11 Photography have been experimenting with solargraphs. This process uses a pin hole camera made out of a large tin, which is loaded with a piece of light sensitive photo paper. Photopaper will change colour slowly just with white or UV light hitting it. We then attached the camera to a stable ledge on the top library verandah for 6 weeks, facing the path of the sun. Upon opening the camera after this time we made a colour digital scan of the photo paper, which over that time had captured the image and the slowly changing path of the sun. We had to invert the image from a negative to a positive on Adobe Photoshop and reverse it as well. We also intensified the colours and pushed them away from the blues which dominated. You can now see the top roofs of B and C Blocks, the end of E Block and the trees in the Middle School quadrangle. The path of the sun over the 6 weeks is the rainbow like pattern through the trees. The darker lines would be the days when the sun did not shine very much.

Special Education Unit

Special Education Sport

Sport this term has started with some great cricket sessions at Adcock Park. We have been fortunate to have Toby Kable from “All Ability Sports Coaching” do some fun activities with our students. He has developed their skills in batting, fielding and bowling. The progress they have made is wonderful to see.

Twelve students from Special Ed. attended a Barista course at TAFE at the Ourimbah Campus. The cost of this course was covered by a grant from the Central Coast Leagues Club.

Barista Course

All the students did a great job in this practical course. They produced a variety of coffees including Expressos, Cappuccinos, Lattes and Mochas. Another component was making milkshakes and smoothies. The students will practice the skills they learnt during this course in our Special Ed. Coffee Shop in the coming weeks.

All students enjoyed the experience of attending TAFE for a day and did HKHS proud. Each student will attain a TAFE Certificate which will look good in their resume.

This opportunity was made possible from Clubs NSW grant sourced through Central Coast Leagues Club
