Library

The Senior School Library furnishings order is about to be lodged. We have had some great discussions with students and teaching staff and some in depth phone conversations with our chosen supplier. Having spent the past few weeks being more than a little scared, the way forward now looks rosy.

Junior School classes seem to be working well in our revamped space. During Term 1 Ms Welst and I will continue to fine tune the varying collections housed in the space. All classes have been in to meet their new teachers and borrow something. Feedback from the senior primary classes on the space and the overall collection have been positive.

On both sites we are discovering some books that appear to be on loan from last year sitting on our shelves. We will be working through this situation as quickly as we can to rectify the records. At the end of 2019, we did not charge for any overdue library books other than Senior School text book loans because we were aware that this had happened.

Supporting your children to read in any way you can is the most impactful step you can take as a parent. The students who were celebrated on stage during our Scholars’ Assembly on Monday all had lengthy loan histories. The choices they make in terms of what to read do not influence their capacity in negative ways – if they are fixated on an author or a series, they are still reading and developing increased empathy for other people and circumstances. Finding the right author for your son or daughter is a challenge those of use working in our school libraries love.
