Assembly - Friday 1st November @ 3.00pm

Our next Assembly for Term 4 is  Friday 1st November @ 3.00pm. Everyone is welcome, however a special invitation goes out to 3/4 families, as the 3/4 level are hosting the assembly this week. Remember to pop into Bernie's before assembly and grab a cuppa. This assembly was previously supposed to be hosted by the 5/6s, however given that they will be away on camp, the 3/4s will host, with the 5/6s to host on the 15th November instead.

Year 6 Graduation - Save the date - 12th December 2019

Year 6 students, parents and families, the annual Graduation Mass and Dinner are on Thursday 12th December. Mass begins at 5:00pm and dinner follows at the Abruzzo Club. More details to follow so make sure the date is in your diaries.

Year 5/6 Camp

Our Year 5/6s are spending the first of 3 days at Philip Island Adventure Resort. A bus of very excited students left school this morning and have arrived safely at camp. They will participate in a variety of activities that encourage independence, resilience and at boosting self-esteem. The teachers accompanying the students are Josh Fedele, Lesa Bush, Marnie Petkovska, Bianca Ignarro, Lucinda Goring, Phil Pearson and myself. We are very lucky that our staff support the camp program across all levels by fiving of their own time to attend camps. We look forward to sharing the photos with you on our return.

Foundation 2020 Orientation

Our Mini Bernie’s Orientation program begins next Wednesday and we are looking forward to the children and their families joining us. Exiting families who have students beginning Foundation next year have been asked to be a buddy to a new family. If you have not yet returned the form about this, please do so as soon as possible. Thanks to those who have already done so.

Basketball Clinic and Match

As part of our extremely busy week last week, our Year 3-6s were fortunate to have a clinic with South East Melbourne Phoenix. The whole school, wearing their basketball tops, watched some of our students play against the team. It was a wonderful experience and many thanks to Phil Pearson for his organisation of the day. See the gallery on our Physical Education page.

Mini Mission Fete

Once again our Mini Mission Fete was a huge success. It is almost impossible to believe what our students can do as they prepared, planned and participated in an hour of fun whilst they are conscious of the reason for our fete. The generosity of families who help behind the scenes and the amazing students who have money they had not spent but wanted to donate anyway, shows us that our motto of ‘Love Serves’ is very much alive. We raised an amazing $2343.65 that will be sent to Catholic Missions and then to Sr Stan and her community to support their work. A fantastic effort - well done everyone!

Tuning into Kids Program

As mentioned in last week's Bernardo, there is an opportunity to run a ‘Tuning into Kids- Emotionally Intelligent Parenting’ program at school next year. The course, facilitated by a psychologist, runs for 6 weeks and helps parents teach their children the skills of emotional intelligence. The program costs $150 per participant, usually in a small group (between 8- 12 participants) and runs over 6 weeks either from 9:00am - 11:00am or 1:30pm - 3:30pm. You can learn more about the program by visiting their website http://www.tuningintiokids.org.au

Interest of parents and responses, will determine if the program can proceed, so please email us by Friday 15th November on schooladmin@stbernardscoburg.catholic.edu.au if you are interested.

'Something to think about'

Flashback

As our Year 1/2s  participate in an excursion called 'Craftpower’ tomorrow, where they will make push billy carts, it reminds us of some of the games and activities of the past. Below are some links to the games you may have played when you were younger. If not, maybe you remember hearing about them. Perhaps you could try them over the Cup weekend break.
