Kingsholme Update

New things are happening...Spring is almost here.
[Editor's note: Kingsholme is a 212-acre property in the picturesque town of Ellendale, a one hour drive from Hobart, in the upper Derwent Valley. The property, owned by Pathways for many years, has traditionally been a retreat and support facility for the wider Christian community in Tasmania, and so services an important albeit specialised community. This article is written by our team there, with that community in mind. Earlier this year the Pathways Board agreed to support a change in focus of the farm, from what was the only foster caring farm in Australia, to its original focus and calling started by its original founders and owners, the late Reg & Athlene Chopping OBE, well-known and respected community leaders in Tasmania.]
As many of you may know, Kingsholme has a very rich Christian heritage, with the founders Reg and Athlene Chopping establishing the property’s Christian ministry in the 1980s primarily as a retreat and a place to rest. It holds a cherished place in the hearts of many who have experienced its peace and its wonderful beauty. The Choppings' ministry was extremely fruitful and was an incredible blessing to the wider community throughout Tasmania. The Kingsholme property has since been used by numerous organisations for various purposes. Since the beginning of this year, however, Kingsholme has been undergoing a change of management. The property continues to be owned by Pathways Tasmania who is now working in partnership with an onsite volunteer management team. Kingsholme continues to be a non-denominational Christian retreat and camp venue and aims to serve and bless the entire Christian community in Tasmania.
Kingsholme is set on 212 acres of bush and farming land. Our property has numerous facilities available for Christian groups, families and individuals to use. We provide clean and comfortable group accommodation facilities...perfect for your next leadership, youth, ministry or family camp! We have a selection of onsite activities and facilities available for your group to enjoy, including swimming, kayaking, swan paddle boats and archery!
For those seeking a more private getaway, we have a beautiful self-contained retreat house, which provides the perfect space for individuals, couples and families to connect with God and each other in a quiet rural setting.
Throughout the year we offer various non-denominational retreats and camps that are designed to strengthen and encourage the Church and their families. Our upcoming events include:
– ‘The Well – Spring Retreat’ on the 13-15 September. This retreat is a self-directed, spiritual refreshment weekend, which provides individuals and couples space and time to rest and seek God.
– Our Father/ Daughter camp on the 4-6 October. This will be a fun-filled weekend full of activities such as archery, geocaching, crafts and an evening bonfire. This weekend is aimed at strengthening father and daughter relationships. Next year, we aim to provide a camp for fathers and sons, mothers and daughters and mothers and sons.
Here at Kingsholme, we are passionate about worship! Every month we host a worship night, with a catered dinner beforehand. Many guests choose to stay the night in our accommodation and enjoy a continental breakfast in the morning. These nights, along with all of our events are non-denominational and everyone is warmly invited to join us. Our upcoming worship nights for 2019 will be held on:
24th August, 28th September, 26th October & 30th November.
Outside of camps and retreats our facilities are always open for individuals, couples and families to use. We often have people coming to stay with the purpose of praying, fasting and resting. We invite you to come and visit us at Kingsholme and enjoy the facilities we have to offer.
