Pathways Strategic Plan

2019 - 2022

From the Chairman...

At the most recent Board meeting on Tuesday 13th of July, the Board approved the new Strategic Plan for Pathways Tasmania Inc. This is a four-year plan (2019-22) designed to ensure Pathways is growing our impact, with a clear purpose and direction.

A lot of thinking has gone into developing the plan, and I would like to thank the Board and staff involved for embracing this important work and participating in its development.

The world in which we live and work has changed significantly over recent years. This is seen and felt across the world, and has certainly impacted on Pathway’s in the changing needs of those we support, the challenges across the state with housing, cost of living pressures, and all the associated expectations placed upon organisations delivering services across the Community Sector.

As a faith-based organisation, our calling has not wavered… WHY we exist remains. We are here to provide pathways into a bright future for those battling addictions with homelessness and mental health issues.  WHAT we do and HOW we approach this calling, however, changes with the emerging opportunities around us.

As part of this process we reflected and considered the things we value the most from the last 2-3 years and felt the following accomplishments worth sharing:

  • Velocity Transformations – now about to open a 2nd program
  • Internal systems and ability to withstand change
  • Maintained our funding
  • The Launch property is as stable as it has been in many years
  • Quality review
  • Financial sustainability
  • Staff training & welfare
  • Continued improvement to best practice & evidence-based methods
  • Engagement with community
  • Professionalism and strong foundation

There is a lot to be proud and thankful for. Our combined impact continues to be felt, often in a disproportionate way commensurate with our size.

Looking ahead, we have chosen a range of enabling strategies that position us for the future and assist us to take advantage of opportunities to help more Tasmanians in need. There was much healthy debate around the vision for Pathways – and specifically what impact we are wanting to have on the world. The resulting statement is bold – some might say audacious – but moves us to drive ahead with energy, optimism and courage.

Our Vision:   A Tasmania free from addiction

In deciding HOW to best enable our new vision, we found direction from seven decision-making filters. These have provided the lens through which we have measured our operating options:

  • Does it fit with our purpose?
  • Does it build on our strengths?
  • Does it meet a need or opportunity in the market?
  • Does it fit within our business model?
  • Is it evidence-based?
  • Is it consistent with our values?
  • Does it position us for success?

As we move towards the end of 2019 and into 2020, the impact we wish to have will be distributed across four enabling strategies.

These strategies will provide hope and empowerment to those in our programs; enable us to open new doors, shine a light in the darkness and transform the lives of those in most need.

New Support centres:

Bringing supported accommodation services in Tasmania to where they are needed most. This may involve more Transformations centres or youth homelessness centres.

Social Enterprise:

Building sustainable social enterprises to support our programs and our finances, including a Kingsholme that is profitable and serving the Tasmanian Christian community.

Mentoring programs:

We will create healthy mentor relationships to support our people and programs, in a way that builds capacity, heart and purpose.

Broadening our Addiction Programs:

We plan to invest in support services where they are needed. Which may include internet-related and technology-related addiction treatment programs.

Stay tuned as we share with you our progress on our Facebook page and through these newsletters, with a copy of the Strategic Plan to be released soon.

Many thanks to everyone that continues to support us, it is through you that we can dream about a Tasmania free from addiction.
