Prep Wellbeing

This week the preps have been having a ball learning all about procedural texts! We have worked together to follow instructions to make a finger puppet alien, an origami whale and tomato parsley pasta! It was lots of fun getting our materials ready and following the steps in order! The pasta was super tasty too!

Students in 1/2 have been reading books and watching short clips about courage. They learnt what it means to be brave and how to overcome their fears.

One of the books we read was...

We listened to the story ‘Brave as can be’. We then shared about times we have been brave.

"Wellbeing week has been so much fun-we’ve watched ‘Inside Out’ and did lots of work around it. It was fun as we focused on SEL and the five emotions anger, sadness, disgust, fear and joy. We’ve learnt to control our emotions in the right way. We put the emotions on a scale so, for example, happy would be in the middle and joyful might be higher and content might be lower."

In Grade 3/4 we watched ‘Inside Out’ and we looked into Rylee’s emotions. We spoke about how these emotions feel when we experience them, and the correct ways to react to these emotions. We then got an A3 piece of paper and had to draw our own personality islands. In the movie, Rylee’s personality changed as she grew up and it was really interesting to watch. It was quite calming to do this activity and it showed us how different and similar we can be compared to our friends.

5/6 Wellbeing

Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, ‘I will try again tomorrow.’ - Mary Anne Radmacher

It takes courage to deal with change and growing up. In the 5/6 area this week we have started

to explore the courage it takes to move forward. For our Year 5s, this means having the courage

to stand up and be the leaders of our school, to prepare for being the best buddies and to

understand that this responsibility isn’t always easy. To know that doing the right thing and

speaking up when something is not right is one of the hardest and most courageous acts. For

our Year 6s, this means understanding that it takes courage to embrace change. That it is okay

to feel nervous and unsure when facing something unknown, like High School, but that with

courage we can make it through. We do not always feel brave but that doesn’t mean we cannot

show courage in tough times.

To examine these ideas the Year 5 students have started their ‘Better Buddies’ program and the

Year 6s have begun their sessions focused on transitions. We also investigated inspirational

people who have shown courage.

In addition to this, our Year 6 Wellbeing Team presented at ‘Youth in Chamber’ on Tuesday.

They spoke about their ‘Believe in Belonging’ event and gave ideas to the Mayor of Port Phillip

around ways the council can improve inclusivity.
