Principal Report

Principal’s Message Week 1 Term 4

Welcome back everyone! I trust you all had a great holiday. What a fantastic conclusion we had to Term Three with Seussical and the fun we had on Footy and Pie Day. The holidays were certainly well deserved and came at just the right time.

I know that many of our families headed overseas or interstate for warmer weather. I hope you have all enjoyed the time with your children and that the children have come back to school refreshed and ready for the challenges of Term Four.

Term Four is always an extremely busy term. From a teaching perspective, it is a time of consolidation and assessment as we prepare for semester 2 reports. You will soon receive an outline of what is happening over the term in your child’s class through the class newsletters. These will be Flexibuzzed to you by the classroom teachers within the next week.

There is never a dull moment at St Columba's and this term is no exception. We have many special events, incursions, excursions and activities planned for the children. The highlight of course for our parents this term will be the Disco Bingo Night, Saturday 19 October. I know the PFA are in full-swing organisation mode and it will require all hands on deck and your participation to ensure this evening is a success. This is our major fundraiser for the year and all the proceeds will go towards a nature play area and the replacement of the current playground equipment.

But before this event, we have some other wonderful experiences planned for our school community. Once again, we will be holding our annual Book Fair and Grandparents and special people’s Day in Week 4. More information regarding the Book Fair is in today’s newsletter. We will be celebrating Grandparents and special people’s day with a liturgy in the hall that we invite all Grandparents and special people to attend. This will be followed by time in the classrooms with the children and morning tea.

During the term there will be Orientation for our 2020 Preps, Level Class Mass for Year 3/4, Swimming P-2 and Year 6 , Surf Life Saving for Years 3-6, Year 5 Sailing, Camp for Year 3/4, our Carols night and picnic early December, a whole school Rideathon December 13 and of course we will farewell our Year 6 students at Graduation.

Planning is well underway for 2020 and I hope to finalise staffing over the next few weeks.  I will keep you informed as these decisions are made.

Please make sure you check the Dates To Remember section in this newsletter to ensure that you mark all the important dates that relate to your child/children this term.

Attendance

Just a reminder that if your child is away you need to inform the school. You can do this either by phoning the office, emailing or FlexiBuzz.

If you are going away on holidays parents are required to inform the school in advance.

Intentions 2020

Planning for 2020 is already underway. To assist us in this process could you please let Daniella know, dmaddalena@scelwood.catholic.edu.au,  if your child will not be returning to St Columba’s in 2020.
