Career News 1st May 2020

Term 2 is traditionally a busy term for Year 10 students with Pathway Interviews,  getting Year 12 Students ready for Term 3 VTAC applications, Career Expos and Tertiary Institutes starting their Open Day Season. With COVID-19 this has put some things on hold and moved a lot of things online. In this newsletter, please find information about virtual career expos, tertiary information sessions and how you can support your daughters, particularly those in Years 10 to 12, in this bizarre world we live in at the moment.

Please see the link for the table summarising what is happening in terms of Virtual Career Expos (starting at the end of this week), Access Monash Programs and what is currently happening at Tertiary Institutes. Obviously as things change with Government closure and social distancing regulations some of this may change too.

Virtual Career Expos and Tertiary Institution Summary Table:

Year 12s: Where to Now?

In the next few weeks I will be sending out information to Year 12 students to help them start preparing for applying to VTAC and their individual Term 3 Interviews that will start in August. In the meantime, I have sent them a document that summarises all the institutions and where they can find course and books online. I would also encourage you to talk to them about what they would like to do post school and get them to start thinking about where they are heading. They could:

All Year 12s will have a group information session at the start of August and an individual interview once VTAC registration opens and they start entering information about themselves and their course selections.

With regards to ATAR, latest information states that this will still be calculated and used by Tertiary Institutions. Many institutions also offer other pathways alongside ATAR such as interviews, tests (UCAT, CASPER), portfolios and performance. Some may also be considering Year 11 results too this year. This information should be communicated by the institution and should be on VTAC once the system is updated for the 2020 VCE cohort for August Applications.

Year 10 Morrisby and Pathway Interviews

During the Personal Development Week, the Year 10s students completed a number of career based and reflective activities, including the Morrisby Profile. Unfortunately, with the onset of school closures, the parent session for this was cancelled. We have a printed copy of your daughter’s report so stay tuned as to when this session will be run, and you can collect the report. In the meantime, your daughter should

hopefully have shared her profile with you and this can be accessed online.

Pathway Interviews to discuss what your daughter has learnt about herself by competing the Morrisby and her future school and post-school study will be occurring sometime later this year. Before these occur, your daughter can continue do some exploration using her Morrisby online report, completing the interview questions and making any notes. These tabs can be found section be found at the top of her profile page. She might also like to use some of the other resources listed below. Once dates have been set for interviews, I will let you know.
