Interschool sports

On Friday May 31st, our talented year 7 students went to Sunbury to participate in the Mickleham Division soccer and netball tournaments. The teams had trained well and prepared to perform to the best of their abilities on the day.
Both soccer teams had to play in extremely unpleasant conditions, as it was raining and very cold all day at Langama Park, Sunbury. The boys soccer team played amazing in both of their games on the day and have progressed to the Northern Metropolitan Region Finals. The boys first beat Hume Grammar 4-3 to progress to the final against Sacred Heart Kyneton. It was a very close and sluggish grand final match against Sacred Heart, but fortunately our boys dug deep and held on to win 5-4. Ali Alamarah defended like a brick wall that opposition struggled to get around the entire day, as he was an anchor in defence. Amongst our elite Edgars Creek midfield, Nick and Haseeb were constantly providing options and displaying elite playmaking skills and delivery to teammates to create scoring opportunities. Stefan and Michael put in fantastic performances and scored multiple goals throughout the day with their impressive performances.
Our girls team put in two impressive performances in their matches but unfortunately just missed out on progressing to the Northern Metropolitan Region Finals. The girls first drew with Mount Ridley 0-0, in a very competitive but defensive game. Melisa Demollari displayed perfect timing with her runs as she had multiple one on one opportunities with the goalkeeper but unfortunately could not convert. Melisa then showed outstanding resilience to keep providing options in the second game and converted as we took a 1-0 lead against Sacred Heart Kyneton. Emilia Forte was an excellent defender all day and provided many goal-saving tackles to prevent opposition from scoring. Sacred Heart Kyneton scored a late goal to tie the scores at 1-1 which resulted in our girls not progressing to a grand final match on the day.
The girls netball team played four games against other schools at Boardman Stadium in Sunbury. The girls continued to improve their offensive and defensive execution throughout the day but unfortunately could not register a win on the day. Vicki Fenunuti was an outstanding defender on the day making it extremely difficult for opponents to get easy goals. Kiara De Luca and Leyla Zdraveska consistently played to the best of their abilities and were excellent in helping the team transition from the defensive to offensive side of the court.
Well done to all teams on a fantastic day, displaying positive sportsmanship and participating to the best of their abilities.
On Wednesday 19th June, our best 11 cross country athletes participated in the Northern Metropolitan Region Finals at Bundoora Park. All students had to complete a 3km run against the best athletes in the northern region with races having up to 100 competitors. Outstanding performers on the day included Abdurahman Mohamed who came 32nd with a time of 12:09 running 50 seconds faster than his previous time. Jude Georgievski was impressive with a time of 12:53 which was one minute faster than his qualifying time although finishing 43rd. Emilia Forte and Anokhi Prasanna Kumar also made large improvements on their qualifying times due to their strong commitment to training. Well done to all these students on competing and I am sure they will come back even more determined to compete at a higher level next year in cross country.
