Helping with homework

Have you ever been asked to help with Maths homework, and immediately panicked? Which of these thoughts may have crossed your mind?

  • The way they teach it now is so different to when I was in school
  • I will only confuse them further if I try to help
  • I was never very good at Maths, I can't help
  • If I do the work for them, they still won't understand

The good news is, you don't need to be an expert. The best thing you can do to help, is ask questions that direct your child towards helping themselves.

The question prompts in the graphic reinforce the message we deliver at school...what has your teacher given you that can help? What strategies could you use?

Where can you look to get help...your maths book, google classroom, the online textbook?

Sometimes a gentle reminder is all that's needed.
