Principal's Report

2019 has certainly been a year of growth and success at Wee Waa High School, notwithstanding the challenging time our community has faced with the ongoing drought.

Our staff and students work hard to uphold our motto of ‘Strive for Excellence’ and we are continually grateful to be so well supported by so many people and organisations in our community. So too we are grateful for the dedication and care our teachers, support staff, pastoral care and wellbeing team offer each and every one of our students, especially at times like these.

We have reached greater heights and ventured with success into several new areas this year. I feel it’s important to celebrate these successes as a community and acknowledge what we have all achieved together.

A sample of our achievements for 2019 include;

  • Debuting in this year’s Archibull Prize and placing second
  • Establishment of a drama club
  • Our first two staff graduating with a Cert II in Indigenous Language Studies which led to our        Acknowledgement to Country language initiative for students
  • A record number of students attending university experience programs
  • Our first Young Endeavour adventurer
  • The largest and most well-resourced work experience program for students with a disability
  • The greatest number of female students joining the school’s highly successful robotics team
  • Our first participant in the Country to Canberra mentoring program
  • The redesigning of the library and learning spaces for completion February 2020
  • A regional School Based Trainee of the Year awardee
  • Quadrupling of participants in the Premier’s Reading Challenge
  • Our first male cricket player representing NSW
  • Making it to the second round of the NSW Junior Chess League competition
  • A staff member taking on the New England regional coordinators role for debating and professional development
  • Our first teacher reaching the new accreditation status of Highly Accomplished

To everyone who has played a part in any one of these achievements, I salute and thank you.

Together we are striving for excellence.

Yours sincerely
