Year 3 Report

Term 3

Wow, what a term!! Where do we start?! Sadly we have spent most of the term in Remote Learning again, but to say that we are proud of the students and how they have handled it would be an understatement! The students settled in to their new routine well, attending check ins and masterclasses each day. They demonstrated great resilience and have continued to grow as independent learners.

Luckily we managed to get camp in before lockdown! Despite some rainy weather the year 3 and 4 students were able to enjoy an amazing experience at the Log Cabin Camp in Creswick. 57 students went to the camp as well as Miss Jess, Mr U, Natalie, Louise, Mrs Kenely, Mrs Posar and Mr. Moat. Students enjoyed amazing activities such as the flying fox, frisby golf, giant swing, glow stick disco, archery and much more! The grade 3 and 4 students also learnt some new skills, built their independence and formed new and stronger relationships with their peers. We can't wait for the next camp!

Another highlight from term 3 was Book Week! The teachers and students really enjoyed having the opportunity to dress up and complete some fun activity based on the amazing Book Week books for this year.

Well done Grade 3 students for another amazing term! Special mention to all the parents. We could not have done what we have done without all of your support. Thank you! We are looking forward to hopefully seeing you all in person next term 🤞🤞

Mathematics

This term in mathematics we began by focusing on multiplication and division. We looked at different ways to represent our multiplication equations, helping to deepen our understanding of exactly what multiplication is. Students looked at repeated addition and arrays and how we can use them to help us solve multiplication equations. We also looked at some tips and tricks that can help us memorise our times tables. This knowledge of our times tables will make it so much easier for us when we are solving multiplication problems. By the end of this year we want to know our 2's, 5's, 10's and 3's off by heart. We would encourage all students to continue practicing at home.

In the second half of the term we have looked at telling time to the nearest minute, counting coins and calculating change.

Literacy

This term in literacy we began by looking at Information Reports. We read a variety of different reports, focusing on the features that were included such as headings, sub headings, introductions and conclusions. We also learned all the different language features that are used when writing an information report. We then used what we had learned to write a variety of information reports of our own. Seeing their new knowledge applied so well to their own reports was fantastic! We then chose a report that we published, making sure we included images that supported the information we were providing. We are currently ending the term on Fantasy Narratives. This is a fun genre as it allows us to really use our imagination and be very creative.

In reading we have worked hard on understanding how we can make links to texts that we are reading. We have been making text to text, text to self and text to world connections. Making these connections has allowed us to dive deeper into what we are reading and truly understand the text.

Inquiry

This term we touched on places around us. We will started by looking at Australia as a whole country, then worked our way down to focus on our state of Victoria. We looked at the features of the state, both natural and man made putting our new knowledge together to create a presentation at the end of the topic.
