Certificate II in Animal Studies
This qualification provides you with a broad range of skills and knowledge to pursue a career or further training in the animal care and management industry in a range of areas such as: animal control and regulation, animal technology, captive animals, companion animal services, grooming, horse breeding and veterinary nursing.
Students must successfully complete twelve units of competency to gain ACM20117 Certificate II in Animal Studies.
Pathways: provides students with the skills and knowledge to enter the Animal Care and Management industry. Employment opportunities reflect roles such as animal care attendant, animal shelter attendant, kennel attendant, pet shop attendant and assistant dog groomer.
It should be noted that a student needs to have commenced or completed ACMWHS201 Participate in Workplace Health and Safety Processes prior to engaging in Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) aligned to this program.
Credit in the VCE or VCAL: Recognition of up to three VCE VET units at Units 1 and 2 level, and a Units 3 and 4 sequence. VCAA provides recognition for Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) for students undertaking VCE VET programs.
ATAR contribution: Students who receive a Units 3 and 4 sequence for VCE VET Animal Studies will be eligible for an increment towards their ATAR (10 per cent of the lowest study score of the primary four studies).
Certificate II in Automotive Vocational Preparation
This qualification provides the skills and knowledge required to perform minor maintenance and repair of an automotive vehicle body. The VCE VET Automotive program aims to:
- provide participants with the knowledge, skills, and competency that will enhance their training and employment prospects in the automotive maintenance and repair industry.
- enable participants to gain a recognised credential and to make an informed choice of vocation or career path.
Credit in the VCE or VCAL: Recognition of up to two units of credit at Units 1 and 2 level and a Units 3 and 4 sequence.
VCAA provides recognition for Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) for students undertaking VCE VET programs. A Workplace Learning Record booklet for VCE VET Automotive is available.
ATAR contribution: Students who receive a Units 3 and 4 sequence for VCE VET Automotive will be eligible for an increment towards their ATAR (10 per cent of the fourth study score of the primary four studies).
Students must achieve twelve units of competency to gain AUR20716 Certificate II in Automotive Vocational Preparation.
AHC20116 Certificate II in Agriculture
This qualification provides an entry level occupational outcome in agriculture. The qualification enables individuals to select a livestock production or cropping context as a job focus or, in the case of mixed farming enterprises, both. Job roles vary across different industry sectors and may include: assistant animal attendant or stockperson, assistant farm or station hand, assistant farm or station worker.
Students must achieve eighteen units of competency to gain AHC20116 Certificate II in Agriculture, including:
- three core units of competency
- fifteen elective units of competency
Credit in the VCE or VCAL: Recognition of up to four VCE VET units at Units 1 and 2 level, and a Units 3 and 4sequence. The VCE VET Agriculture program does not offer scored assessment. A student who achieves a Units 3 and 4 sequence may be eligible for an increment towards their ATAR. Increments for VCE VET programs will be calculated using 10% of the lowest study score of the primary four.
22338VIC Certificate II in Building and Construction Pre-apprenticeship
This qualification aims to provide learners with basic industry-specific skills and knowledge to enable transition into an apprenticeship within the building and construction industries at the Certificate III level. This pre-apprenticeship course consists of a core of common cross-sector units of competency that provide skills and knowledge in applying basic levelling procedures, carrying out basic measurements and calculations, communicating in the workplace, erecting and safely using working platforms, interpreting basic plans and drawings, preparing and applying for work in the construction industry, working effectively and sustainably in the construction industry and workplace safety practices on site.
Credit in the VCE or VCAL: Recognition of up to four units at Units 1 and 2 level and a Units 3 and 4 sequence.
ATAR Contribution: Students who receive a Units 3 and 4 sequence for VCE VET Building and Construction will be eligible for an increment towards their ATAR (10 per cent of the lowest study score of the primary four studies).

The Certificate II in Building and Construction Pre-apprenticeship and the Certificate II in Construction Pathways include the unit CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry with an allocation of 6 hours. This unit is recognised by Work Safe Victoria for the registration of construction workers for work health and safety induction. Any person on a construction site needs a construction induction card. This includes all work experience or Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) students.
*It needs to be noted that due to the size of the Building and Construction program, it may not be possible for students to fully complete a Certificate II program over two years.
22470VIC Certificate II in Engineering Studies
This qualification aims to instil positive perceptions of the engineering-related industries by introducing young people to the wide range of employment opportunities, career choices and study pathways to further training in the engineering, manufacturing and related industries.
Scored assessment: Scored assessment is available for VCE VET Engineering Studies. Students wishing to receive an ATAR contribution for VCE VET Engineering Studies must undertake scored assessment. This consists of three coursework tasks, worth 66% of the overall study score, and an end-of-year examination which is worth 34% of the overall study score. Scored assessment is based on the Units 3 and 4 sequence of VCE VET Engineering Studies drawn from 22470VICCertificate II in Engineering Studies.
ATAR Contribution: Students wishing to receive an ATAR contribution for the VCE VET Engineering program Units 3 and 4 sequence must undertake scored assessment for the purpose of achieving a study score. This study score can contribute directly to the ATAR, either as one of the student's best four studies (the primary four) or as a fifth or sixth study. Where a student elects not to receive a study score, no contribution to the ATAR will be available. Students must successfully complete eleven units of competency consisting of:
- seven core units, and
- four elective units.
VCE VET Credit: On successful completion of the VCE VET Engineering program, students will be eligible for:
- the award of 22470VIC Certificate II in Engineering Studies
- up to three VCE units: Units 1 and 2
- a VCE Units 3 and 4 sequence.
Scored assessment is available for the Engineering studies qualification.
SHB20216 Certificate II in Salon Assistant
This qualification develops basic skills and knowledge to assist with client services in the hair and beauty industry, and provides a pathway into a hairdressing apprenticeship.
Credit in the VCE or VCAL: Recognition of up to four units at Units 1 and 2 level.
SHB20216 Certificate II in Salon Assistant comprises twelve units of competency: eight compulsory units and a minimum of four elective units.
VCE VET Credit: On successful completion of Certificate II, students will be eligible for:
- the award of SHB20216 Certificate II in Salon Assistant
- up to four units at Units 1 and 2 level
Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) provides students with the opportunity to integrate practical on-the-job experience and learnings in industry with nationally recognised VET, undertaken as part of either the VCE or the VCAL. It provides the context for:
- enhanced skill development
- practical application of industry knowledge
- assessment of units of competency, and
- enhanced employment opportunities.
VCAA mandates a minimum of 40 hours of SWL over the duration of the SHB20216 Certificate II in Salon Assistant.
HLT33015 Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance (partial completion) (incorporating HLT33115 Certificate III in Health Services Assistance)
This qualification provides students with the knowledge and skills that will enhance their employment prospects in the health industry. These qualifications cover workers who aid allied health professionals and other health professionals with the care of clients. Pathways may include employment into Allied Health Assistance roles such as: Allied Health Assistant, Medical Imaging Assistant, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Physiotherapist Assistant and Podiatrist Assistant.
Credit in the VCE or VCAL: Recognition of one unit at Units 1 and 2 level, and a minimum of three units at Units 3 and 4 level. Students who complete further training in HLT33015 Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance (incorporatingHLT33115 Certificate III in Health Services Assistance) may be eligible for further credit at Units 3 and 4 level.
Scored assessment: Scored assessment is available for HLT33015 Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance (incorporating HLT33115 Certificate III in Health Services Assistance). Students wishing to receive an ATAR contribution for VCE VET Health must undertake scored assessment. This consists of three coursework tasks, worth 66 per cent of the overall study score, and an end-of-year examination which is worth 34 per cent of the overall study score. Scored assessment is based on the Units 3 and 4 sequence of HLT33015 Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance.
ATAR contribution: Students wishing to receive an ATAR contribution for the scored Units 3 and 4 sequence of VCE VET Health must undertake scored assessment for the purpose of achieving a study score. This study score can contribute directly to the ATAR, either as one of the student's best four studies (the primary four) or as a fifth or sixth study. Students who undertake additional training from Certificate III and achieve a further Units 3 and 4 sequence may be eligible for an increment towards their ATAR (10 per cent of the lowest study score in the primary four scaled studies).
Structured Workplace Learning (SWL): The VCAA Reference Group endorsed a minimum of 80 hours SWL for the VCE VET Health program. SWL should be spread across the duration of the training program. The school/provider should keep evidence of the student's SWL which may take place over the weekends and during school holidays as well as during the school week.
HLT33015 Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance (partial completion) (incorporating HLT33115 Certificate III in Health Services Assistance)
SIT20416 Certificate II in Kitchen Operations
This qualification prepares students with a limited range of food preparation and cookery skills to prepare food and menu items. It includes units such as preparing appetisers and salads; preparing stocks, soups and sauces; preparing vegetable, fruit and farinaceous dishes and preparing poultry dishes.
Students must achieve thirteen units of competency to gain SIT20416 Certificate II in Kitchen Operations, including
- eight core units of competency
- five elective units of competency
Credit in the VCE or VCAL: Recognition of two or more units at Units 1 and 2 level and a Units 3 and 4 sequence.
Note: The Units 3 and 4 sequences of VCE VET Hospitality are not designed as stand-alone studies. Students are strongly advised against undertaking the Units 3 and 4 sequence without first completing the core units of competency from the Units 1 and 2 program, plus the appropriate electives.
Scored assessment is available for VCE VET Hospitality. Students wishing to receive an ATAR contribution for VCE VET Hospitality must undertake scored assessment. This consists of three coursework tasks, worth 66% of the overall study score, and an end-of-year examination which is worth 34% of the overall study score.
SIS30115 Certificate III in Sport and Recreation
This qualification provides students with the skills and knowledge to work in the sport and recreation industries. In Units 1 and 2, students can choose from a range of electives to create a program of their choice, including sport-specific activities, conducting events, outdoor recreation or fitness programs. Units 3 and 4 offers scored assessment and includes core units such as plan and conduct programs, risk assessment, and conduct coaching with foundation level participants. Employment opportunities reflect roles such as recreation officer, activity operation officer, sport and recreation attendant, community activities officer or leisure services officer.
Students must achieve fifteen units of competency to gain SIS30115 Certificate III in Sport and Recreation, including:
- nine core units of competency
- six elective units of competency
Credit in the VCE or VCAL: Recognition of up to three VCE VET units at Units 1 and 2 level, and a Units 3 and 4 sequence.
Scored assessment: Scored assessment is available for SIS30115 Certificate III in Sport and Recreation. Students wishing to receive an ATAR contribution for VCE VET Sport and Recreation must undertake scored assessment. This consists of three coursework tasks, worth 66 per cent of the overall study score, and an end-of-year examination which is worth 34 per cent of the overall study score. Scored assessment is based on the VCE VET Units 3 and 4 sequence of SIS30115 Certificate III in Sport and Recreation.
22304VIC Certificate II in Plumbing (Pre-apprenticeship)
This qualification aims to provide learners with basic industry-specific skills and knowledge to enable transition into an apprenticeship or traineeship within the plumbing industry at the Certificate III level. This pre-apprenticeship course consists of 19 compulsory units of competency that provide skills and knowledge in workplace safety practices on site, workplace communication, carrying out measurements and calculations, reading and producing technical drawings, applying basic sheet metal practices, using various welding equipment, and using plumbing tools and resources.
Students must achieve 19 core units of competency to gain 22304VIC Certificate II in Plumbing (Pre-apprenticeship). Where the full course is not completed a Statement of Attainment will be issued for any completed unit.
Credit in the VCE or VCAL: Recognition of up to three VCE VET units at Units 1 and 2 level, and a Units 3 and 4 sequence.
