Eco Club

Inline with our 'nude foods' program, the OGPS students and teachers have started the fun exercise of undertaking a school waste audit. The students are delving into how we can reduce the amount or waste being produced at OGPS.

For the Humanities unit this term the student's are auditing how much waste they produce. Here is a Year 3 class going through how much waste they have produced in one day in just the year 3 area. They will be using the results to direct their learning for the rest of the term.

At home you could start involving your child in household recycling (and composting and/ or green waste), or ask about what they have learnt about at school in Humanities. Continuing the waste conversation at home would be fantastic!

We look forward to updating you all on where this journey takes the students.

For a while now we have been talking about and planning a recycling station for OGPS, so we are very excited for our first project to be a collection point at OGPS for the great causes, Lids 4 Kids and Bread Tags for Wheelchairs.

From Tuesday 31st August we will have a regular weekly drop off point set up for the kids to bring in their collection of lids and bread tags, which we will then donate to the Lids 4 Kids and Bread Tags for Wheelchairs.

Our collection point will be located on the deck near the grade 1-2 area (near the toilets) and will be open for drop off between 8.30 and 9.00 every Tuesday.

Please ensure you read the guidelines below, as it will make life much easier for the volunteers sorting them. Also, please (please) wash all the lids.

Lids and bread tags should be separated

A little bit about the organisations

Lids4Kids Australia is a grass-roots 100% volunteer project which rescues plastic bottle lids from landfill to benefit the environment and repurposes them into sustainable recycled plastic products to benefit kids.

Bread Tags for Wheelchairs collect bread tags nationally in Australia. The tags are recycled locally, raising funds to buy wheelchairs for disadvantaged people, mainly in South Africa.
