ASC Schools Week Eucharist, September 2021.
Last week the Anglican Schools Commission celebrated ASC Schools Week. This is a biennial celebration which acknowledges the important mission of our schools and also showcases the musical talent of our students. The two key events of the week were the Eucharist at St George's Cathedral at which The Most Reverend Kay Goldsworthy AO, Archbishop of Perth presided and preached and the ASC Combined Schools Concert held on Friday evening at the Perth Concert Hall. The Service involved many students across our schools, with the large choir a highlight. It was an honour for Chaplain Justine to be Deacon for the Service, assisting the Archbishop. The Concert was outstanding and I was very proud of our students who performed with great enthusiasm and skill in a challenging choral and orchestral program. Our Secondary Music Coordinator, Rory Marchant is to be acknowledged for his contribution to this event including encouraging and supporting our students, for whom performing at the Concert Hall was an exciting yet daunting experience. Whilst representatives from our eastern states schools; namely, Cathedral College Wangaratta, Cobram Anglican Grammar School and Trinity Anglican College Albury could not be in attendance due to COVID-19 restrictions, they were with us in spirit best symbolised by their school banners proudly displayed in the Cathedral and the Concert Hall.
Closer to home, this week has seen Father's Day celebrations in Kindergarten with many Dads visiting the ELC to spend time with their children. Together with Mother's Day, these opportunities to cherish and thank our parents are highlights of the year for the students who love to show their parents their classroom, the playground and all the activities they enjoy at school.
I am presently interviewing applicants for the 2022 Prefecture as the final stage of the selection process overseen by Dean of Pastoral Care, Kylie Virgo. It is always a pleasure to meet these students and hear of their time at John Wollaston, their goals as a Prefect and their plans for the future. The 2022 Prefecture will be announced before the end of term in readiness for them to take up their duties in Term 4.
Enrolments for 2022
I am pleased to confirm that there continues to be strong interest in all year levels for 2022 and beyond. For example, I am presently interviewing students for Year 7 2023 and places are filling rapidly. Year 7, our main intake year in the Secondary School, is now full for 2022, expanding to a fourth class and a cohort of 128 students. I am still happy to receive applications and interview students for Year 7 but they will be placed on the waiting list. The demand for places in the Primary has enabled me to add an additional class in Years 4, 5 and 6, making them triple stream in 2022.
Should you be planning to enrol a sibling for next year, I urge you not to delay making application. This can be done through EnrolHQ on our website. Please also inform your friends if they are considering John Wollaston for their children's education.
Some families are choosing to enrol their child earlier than originally planned to secure a place at the School. This avoids the bottleneck of Year 7 and enables a valuable period of settling in to the new environment and making friends before transitioning to the Secondary years. Should you wish to discuss any matter pertaining to enrolments, please do not hesitate to contact the Registrar, Ann Brightmore via 9495 8150 or email registrar@jwacs.wa.edu.au.
With good wishes for the remainder of the term.
