Covid Update - Thursday 5/08/2021

Firstly thank you to all the families for your compliance to the guidelines that are in place. As we have seen Covid knows no boundaries and is appearing in schools across the country. We do not want to go into selective lockdowns, so please follow the guidelines.

Student attendance on site

Monday 9/08/2021 - Thursday 12/08/2021

Consistent with previous arrangements, schools must continue to provide on-site supervision for students in the following categories:

1. Children where both parents and/or carers are authorised workers who cannot work from home, work for an essential provider and where no other supervision arrangements can be made:

  • Where there are two parents/carers, both must be authorised workers, working outside the home in order for their children to be eligible for on-site provision
  • For single parents/carers, the authorised worker must be working outside the home in order for their children to be eligible for on-site provision.

2. Children experiencing vulnerability, including:

  • children in out-of-home care
  • children deemed vulnerable by a government agency, funded family or family violence service, and is assessed as requiring education and care outside the family home
  • children identified by a school as vulnerable, including via referral from a government agency, or funded family or family violence service, homeless or youth justice service or mental health or other health service.
  • Where a parent/carer indicates that a student with a disability is vulnerable because they cannot learn from home, and/or informs the school the student is vulnerable due to family stress, the school must provide on-site supervision for that student. This may apply to students enrolled in specialist schools and students with a disability enrolled in mainstream schools.

Supervision Proof at Newlands Update

As we continue to provide supervision on site service, and as we enter Lockdown #6, we will be requesting further supporting evidence of need for the service. We will continue requesting that our electronic form be fully completed as we did in the last lockdown. However in addition to the electronic form we will need a letter of proof from an employer that states your work is essential. As we now enter a time where the Delta strain is far more serious than what we experienced in 2020 we need to restrict unnecessary movement in the community absolutely.

Action required for on-site supervision

  • Submit the electronic form as required fully completed.
  • Submit to the school email inbox a letter of proof from your employer stating you are an essential worker.
  • Similarly we will continue to provide support to families where children are deemed vulnerable.

We hope the community fully understands this approach and respect my position as principal to not only support the need to support the community and suppress the virus, but also my responsibility to the Newlands staff to keep them safe as front line workers who are not at this stage fully vaccinated.
