Lockdown 6.0

Next week is Book Week and teachers have been working hard to plan a week that will look a bit different from our regular remote learning program.  We felt that the students needed some respite and a chance to engage in some hands on activities using the books that come recommended by the Children Book Council of Australia.

The teachers have been recording, making and baking to bring the children wide range of activities throughout the week.  This includes a Warrandyte Primary Book Week Website, Online Book Readings and an online parade. We have even planned our Numeracy to have a Literacy focus next week, which I am very excited about.  Literacy is always the core work in a school and the staff and I believe that Book Week is one of the most important celebrations in a school year as it supports the message to students that a good book can enrich their experiences of the world.  We are determined to not let a lockdown stop us celebrating as a whole school.

We have decided to go ahead with our dress-up day, moving it to Thursday morning online to give you some time to think about a costume.

We will end the week with books and activities that have a wellbeing focus for our students, recognising how tired they must be. Details for how to access the Book Week Website will be posted to your child's online learning platform.

Wellbeing Packs for Warrandyte Primary School students
Wellbeing Packs for Warrandyte Primary School students

Tomorrow we will be doing a contactless delivery Wellbeing Packs for each of our students to your door. We have been putting together these bags for all our students as a gesture of how important it is to us that our students are feeling supported and know that they are still part of a whole school community, even when we are apart. The Wellbeing Packs will have a range of kits for crafts that we have put together. These kits will go with some of the Book activities that will run next week. There are other things in there that are just there to make them smile and we have also put in some stationary and mindfulness resources. We hope they enjoy the Packs and the week we have planned for them next week.

Take care,

Nieta
