From the Principal

William Wallace

Dear Parents and Carers,

Wakakirri

Twenty-seven boys and girls from Years 3-6 represented our school beautifully at Wakakirri, which was held at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre last Thursday. The students performed a wonderful item which told the history of our school and demonstrated the way in which we are a harmonious and multicultural community. The standard of the performance that our students were in reflected the high quality of the work that Mrs Melissa Bishop has done with the students, as well as the diligent efforts of staff and parents. It was a proud moment to watch our item and to see the students perform so well on stage. The students have also received two awards for their performance, the Highly Commended Harmony Story Award and the Best Backstage Team Award. My thanks go to Mrs Bishop, Kuno, Mr Gardner, Mrs Wilson, Mrs Fox, Mrs Duns and Mrs Howell for their efforts in coordinating our participation in this event.

National Science Week

This week, we celebrated National Science Week at Golden Grove. Our students enjoyed a number of fantastic activities over the course of the week. At lunchtime, students enjoyed experiments including; Beany Bags – Grow a bean to take home with you, plunge Pool – what food will sink and what food will float, Bob & Bounce – make raisins bob up and down without touching them; and, Colouring – science week mindfulness colouring in!

This year was the first time that our school was a part of the Oliphant Science Awards. Many of our students have completed some outstanding research projects that are beautifully presented and demonstrate a really high standard. Congratulations to Ruby, Riley, Zoe, Ashleigh, Viraat, Sabella, Zara, Evelyn, Abbey, Chloe, Bahar, Rabaab, Sam, Joseph and Aniyah for their efforts!

Our Friday Golden Time this week will also be Science focussed, with the Science Week theme of 'Food: Different By Design' kept in mind. Students will enjoy a range of great activities that teachers have prepared!

Our thanks go to Miss Fitridge for coordinating National Science Week and the Oliphant Awards, and to Mrs Jenkins, Mrs Carter, Mrs Hampel and Mrs Zadow for all of their support.

Ping Pong a Thon

It was awesome supporting ALWS last term in our colour run fundraiser, raising over $6,000 for such a worthy cause. Once again we have a fundraiser for Term 3; to support the work of an incredible organisation, Ping Pong A Thon (or the Pong for short).

Joel Schiller, our GGLC Youth Co-ordinator, and our school are partnering for the event, which will enable the entire Golden Grove Lutheran Community to have the opportunity to be involved.

All of the funds raised will be going towards getting people out of slavery through the work of the seven Pong partners (for more information on the pong partners, head to https://pingpongathon.com/page/cause). How do we raise funds? It is done by playing ping pong with people like yourself getting involved. The event will be running for 24 hours. It will start at 1 pm on Friday, September 17 and finish at 1 pm on Saturday, September 18. The students will be kicking us off from 1-3 pm on Friday and after that anyone else can join in. We would encourage you to come as a whole family and play for as long as you like. You may even like to invite people outside of our community! If you or your child would like to be involved you can create a fundraising page at https://pingpongathon.com/goldengrovepong2021, then click on 'play in this Ping Pong-A-Thon'. From there you can share your fundraising page with your friends/family network and ask for donations.

*When you sign up it only has options for a 3-hour timeslot. If you don’t intend on playing for 3 hours, just choose the timeslot that you will come and play. If you would like to donate but not join in, you can donate to anyone playing (including the different year levels) by heading to the fundraising link. We can’t wait to join together as a community to raise funds to combat slavery!!!

National SSO Week

This week, as well as National Science Week, we also celebrate National SSO week, which promotes the great work that our Lutheran School Officers do. We have a great team of LSOs at Golden Grove who support teaching and learning in the classrooms, as well as in the library, as part of our front office administration, finance, grounds, communications and transport teams. They work really hard to support us in all that we strive for and we are very appreciative of their efforts and all that they do for our wonderful school.

Connected Schools Worship Service

Our Year 6 students had the privilege of travelling to Endeavour College yesterday to take part in a Combined Connected Schools Worship Service. Each year, Golden Grove students join Endeavour College students, as well as those from St. Paul and Good Shepherd for a combined service of thanksgiving. Our students led some worship songs, and our School Captains and Vice Captains represented our school with pride during the service.

Blessings,

Will
