From the Principal

Benvenuto - Welcome

I am sure you are all feeling a little on edge after the events of the day have unfolded. With news of a positive COVID case in Shepparton and reports of more growing, it has unsettled us all. Whilst we work through what this means for us as a college, we need to stay calm, wait for, and listen to, the advice we are provided by the Department of Health. There have been a number of staff and students who have been identified as contacts through the community and as such were required to go home. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the families impacted by this stay-at-home order as this is a very difficult situation. As always it is heartening to see the impact a crisis has in bringing a community together. With patience, care and understanding we can support each other through these difficult times. We will continue to keep you updated as we know more.

On a brighter note, it was so wonderful to see the students enjoying a day out at the college Athletics Carnival yesterday. The weather was perfect and the participation was fantastic. All children, big and small, participated and encouraged each other as they competed in the track and field events. Whilst it was a great effort by all involved with the running and organisation of the day, a special thanks goes to Learning Mentors Stephen Kealy and Ellie Phillips for their organisation and convening of the event. Congratulations to Montessori House on taking out the win on the day. For more coverage of the Athletics Carnival please see the Sports News page of this edition of il giornale.

On Tuesday we held the virtual opening of our Stage 2A building project. Attended online by Federal Member for Nicholls Mr Damian Drum, Bishop of the Diocese of Sandhurst Most Reverend Shane Mackinlay, Catholic Education Sandhurst Ltd's Sr Geraldine Larkins and many other distinguished guests, the event was a great success. Our students and staff were also able to join us online from various learning spaces throughout the college.

If you missed the livestream of the official opening ceremony you can still watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8iCI0furcFg

Moving to an online format was no easy feat but our Publications and Communications Officer Debbie Mori and ICT Administrator Jamie Hatch worked tirelessly to ensure the event was a success. It was a great showcase of the wonderful building and of our college community.

I leave you with some more inspirational words for us to ponder in these times from Pope Francis in his book ‘Let us Dream’: "If we are to come out of this crisis better, we have to recover the knowledge that as a people we have a shared destination. The pandemic has reminded us that no one is saved alone. What ties us to each other is what we commonly call Solidarity. Solidarity is more than acts of generosity, important as these are; it is the call to embrace the reality that we are bound by bonds of reciprocity. On this solid foundation we can build a better, different, human future” (p107). Take care of each other and stay connected.
