Being Happy in a Time of Uncertainty

Four school mornings a week, I start my day happy! It's more than my first cup of coffee, which also helps!  No, when I log on at 9.00 each morning to work with a student 1:1, I am greeted by a smile, an anecdote and 35 minutes of someone who shows an amazing positive mindset in her willingness to learn.

She teaches me exercises, which I pretend to do, and we laugh, we read, spell, and end each session with a game that I never win (which I am not even pretending to lose!) This young lady is not the only one learning. I am too. I am inspired by her resilience and her optimism.  Her demeanour reminds me of a quote by Sundar Pichai (CEO of Google).

"A person who is happy is not because everything is right in his life.  He is happy because his attitude towards everything in his life is right."

This young girl's happiness is her attitude, and I believe it is one we can reflect on during these times of uncertainty.  Her view of the world, although young, is to "walk on the sunny side of the road." Her parent's guidance has certainly helped to shape her resilient and hopeful nature.

This story is just one of many that we, the teachers of Holy Family,  observe as we interact with your children online. You, as the adults around the children, are definitely helping them to be happy in this time of uncertainty.  As teachers, we thrive on the pictures and videos that are sent, showcasing creativity and resourcefulness. We have seen children dance and sing and create - generating joy.

Providing opportunities in addition to the academic learning experiences has been important to us as a staff. We have always valued the social and emotional well-being of children at Holy Family.   We are continuing to provide experiences that enable them to nurture their sense of connectedness to their school community during home learning.

In week 8, a few of our Year 6 students will be reading stories to the Juniors during Story Time and will be hosting the wellbeing events at 1.00 pm.  We are grateful for their willingness to support other children in the school. On Wednesday at 1.00 pm, Melissa Nelson, our creative coach, will be delivering an online meditation. We would love parents to join us if they can.

To continue creating experiences, we are hosting a Dad's Evening on Thursday 26th at 6.00 pm. We invite children and their dads or a significant other  (mum, this can be you) to join us for a fun-filled evening.  You will find us on the Wellbeing Link.

Have a great week everyone.
